Screaming Midgets
Screaming Midgets were formed in October 1999
by Matty N and Matt W, who thought that it was a good name for a band.
The profound lack of musical talent wasn't going to deter them.
Matt Nikic (1998) Matt Wenzel (1999)
The first official recording session they had proved to be very successful, and showed the
boys that they could really work together. On this night they recorded the first 38
seconds of Balls Off, which would become a high school cult classic. They also recorded parts of several other songs and decided
that when they finished them would make an EP called Castration EP.
However, this EP was canned for release by Matty N, who had unjustly taken
control of the creative process, taking it in a direction that even he did not
want to go.
Screaming Midgets' style of music is difficult to define, and they consider themselves the founding fathers of a new genre of music they call 'rackcore.' This style is defined by Matty N as "making thrashy, death metal using dance-music making methods." Heavy guitars and throbbing drum loops along with the death metal growling and lots of screaming characterise Screaming Midget sample-based metal-electronica. This production gives a kind of fake feel to the music, and in many ways, rackcore can be seen as mockery of both dance and death metal genres.
In 2003, Screaming Midgets released their debut album We've come for your mother, which consists of songs written between 1999 and 2003. The album consists of 40 tracks ranging from slow and ambient, to hard and heavy.
2004 saw the beginning of recording a new album, but Matty W headed to Canada to study. It was not until mid-2006 that they finally got their act together and began working on new material for their forthcoming album which should be finished by the end of the year, a year that may also (hopefully) see Screaming Midgets take their unique brand of music to the stage.
