Marisa's TOTALLY RAD Poetry Place!

These poems were written by Marisa Wessler, teenage poetess and editor of GREEN FLEA E-zine. Marisa lives in Fontana, California and is the daughter of Raquel Wessler, one of my best friends and a member of Prodigy's Sisters of the Scribe Writing Group. If you like Marisa's poetry and would be interested in checking out her 'zine, send her an e-mail message at the address below. By the way, I just got my first copy of GREEN FLEA, and it is an *excellent* bit of literary work by one of today's teenagers. She has some KICK interviews in her 'zine with VOODOO GLOW SKULLS, SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS, GOLDFINGER, and SAVE FERRIS. There's also a section for 'zine revues. Marisa takes a look at IMBECILE DIGEST and GENKI ZINE. For toon lovers, there's a hysterically funny home-drawn cartoon, "Dorks on Parade". I laughed my *$#!!@! off!! Now, without further adieu, may I present to you: MARISA WESSLER!!

GIRLS LIKE ME

in a room with handshakes and smiles
i only saw hatchets in peoples hands
and hatred smeared on their face.
they turned to look at me,
the girl in the corner
with a foul mouth pouring out words to offend,
and they locked me away, into a room far from view
because the words that i had said
were words that came from their head.
it was too close to their home
that they were ashamed of
because the decor wasn't delightful to the eye
the home that i had wasn't what you'd call bad
but it wasn't like the Walton's
and i thought that was fine.
back at the room, i was locked away
and i wasn't going to find a hidden key
so i shot down the wall with bullets of truth
and the people stopped and stared at me.
they found a man of law, to take me away
so they wouldn't feel threatened by my heat
and as the officer locked the car door with his keys
i said, 'so THIS is what you do to girls like me".

SPOILED BRATS

their fat faces have mouths that just ask for more
but if they get none, they turn back to cold
and their mama, she didn't need to give them life
their papa, he could just end it all tonight
no one thought this could come from love
unless it was fake right from the start
mama and papa didn't know kids could kill
kids didn't know how to break a heart.
now they have the experience to go
and run the world passed down to them
this kind of behavior is encouraged in the world
the people you hate are always your friends.

UNTITLED

they told me the truth
but i believed in hope
because that's all i wanted to see
now i can see through their eyes
and i feel more wise
dreams only occur in your sleep.

ANOTHER UNTITLED

i know i'm dead in your eyes
i'd rather be dead than living a lie
i only feel alive in my dreams
i only feel comfort when i hear your screams
cause then i know you're just like me
your heroes aren't alive until you see them bleed
let's pelt the angels with our stones
so then we won't feel so old and alone
no one should be more special than us
lets turn the angels wings into dust.

MAMA'S LITTLE GIRL

That's what they call you
Mama's little girl
How would she feel
If you ruled the world?

She'd be really proud,
with her nose up in the sky
Or maybe she wouldn't
If you told her she must die.

Just a sacrifice
For the master plan
There is so much more
Than one stupid man

You never thought she was much
Except money, and a ride
But is that really a reason
For a person to die?

I never thought this could come
From a little girl like you
Such a pretty face
Could hold a soul so cruel

But don't worry now,
You're still mama's girl,
And she will be so happy
When she knows you've ruled the world.

UNTITLED

You'd know her by the way she walks down the street
Or the way that her combat boots slap the hard concrete
There is something different about this girl, yes that is right.
She's the type that bakes cakes by day and goes to punk rock clubs at night.

She is stronger than your average girl,
And boys don't run the majority of her world
She is gorgeous in a Picasso sort of way,
And she doesn't care about what people have to say.

ANOTHER UNTITLED

I've tried to play your game
But I now know where we stand
Now I see what you really are
I see you are just a man

Those people, they think you're
And everything you do, they see you
But I won't do that again
I can't run laps just to be your friend

Once upon a time,
Our eyes for each other felt so new
But now, that feeling is gone
And I'm placing the blame all on you.

I want to say goodbye, But it's better off this way
So when I say you're a thoughtless fool,
It means I wish you'd stay.
