What is the All-City Orchestra?
- The All-City Orchestra is a large ensemblle composed of every elementary string student in Strongsville. It is a required component of the instrumental music curriculum and serves as the students’ primary performance venue. There are two orchestras: the Beginning orchestra, for 5th and 6th graders just getting started; and the Advanced orchestra, for students with at least one year of playing experience.
- No. There is no audition required.& All students taking string lessons in the Strongsville schools are automatically included in the ensemble.
- Beginning orchestra meets every Thursday that school is in session (see attached schedule) from 8:15 am until 9:00 am in the gym of Kinsner Elementary School, 19091 Waterford Parkway.
- Bring everything you would bring to your school lesson: your instrument, music, and a pencil. Be sure to also bring everything you will need for school that day! You will also need a folding music stand, clearly marked top and bottom with your full name.
- Yes! School lessons will continue aas usual.
- Students need to arrange for their own trransportation to Kinsner on orchestra mornings. Car pools are encouraged to take some of the burden off individual parents. After rehearsal, shuttle buses are provided to transport all students to their respective schools.
- Yes! I am at school every orchestraa morning by 7:15 to supervise any and all students who need to be dropped off early.
- You will receive an All-City schedule inccluding scheduled cancellations (for instance, we seldom have rehearsals after a large concert). If school is delayed or cancelled due to weather, All-City practices are automatically cancelled. In the event that an emergency causes a practice to be cancelled, an announcement will be at each school at least one day in advance.
The All-City Orchestra is a wonderful opportunity for our string students! The goal is for every student to be involved. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. See you in orchestra!
