Uniquely Romantic Gestures

There are many romantic gestures that will enhance a person's relationship with their partner. Many of us know the standards such as cuddling with her during a old romantic flick, giving a compliment or two each day, or giving him tickets to the hottest sports event. Here we've dedicated space to the more unique gestures that we have found, the ones which struck us as "beyond the basics." Maybe you'll find one or two that sound tantalizing and you can incorporate them into your relationship.

Many of these romantic gestures can be utilized by either sex. Please keep that in mind, as we have simply randomly inserted the pronouns he and she in the tips.

  • Do something new and different. Be the first to do something with him and leave a lasting impression. Whenever he does it in the future (whether with you or someone else), he'll think of you - they always remember their first!

  • Keep dry erase markers in the bathroom and use them to leave notes for each other on the bathroom mirror. Be creative with the messages.

  • When helping her on with her jacket or coat, ever so gently run a hand down the center of her back as you release the garment. This should be done in one smooth, quick motion. No lingering - it's a subtle move intended to tease.

  • Buy her a charm bracelet and add charms periodically to celebrate and commemorate special occasions. This is also an excellent idea for men who travel a lot. Take time to pick a special a charm to bring back from each location. James Avery Jewelers is an excellent source for superior quality bracelets and charms. Call 1-800-283-1770 for a free catalog.

  • Send her flowers at work. Okay, okay, so this is one of the basics but it just can't be stressed enough. There’s not a woman alive who doesn’t melt at the site of a bouquet of long-stems. Take a hint guys . . . send flowers!

  • Give her maid service for a year. Take away the dirty work and you free up her time for more important things like your relationship.

  • Take her to the theater. It's been said that the arts and amore go hand-in-hand. As an added bonus, buy her a keepsake box so that she can store the ticket stubs.

  • If she has to work late on a big project, pack a couple of sandwiches, a bag of chips, and a book and head over to her office. Enjoy a quick meal and light conversation with her, then take a seat across the room from her and read quietly. Don't bother her, just keep her company while she works.

  • Throw him a birthday party - card, cake, balloons, presents and all! Just pick any day not in the month of his actual birthday and throw him a party to celebrate the simple fact that he was born instead of waiting to celebrate the day of his birth.

  • Buy a good quality silk pair of men's pajamas to share between the two of you. One of you gets the top and the other gets the bottom. Alternate occasionally.

  • Silk sheets are a great gift to keep the fires burning. Surprise her by making up the bed with the new sheets before she gets home...and then make up the baed again the next morning.

  • Revive chivalry. Drive out of your way to pick her up, hold her dinner chair, open doors for her, read her poetry. Women love a true gentlemen.

  • Join the Mile High Club.

  • Be creative with your marriage proposal! For instance, a guy can propose to his girl through the windows of the fish tank at the Epcot Living Seas while scuba diving. This is arranged before hand with the Disney people. They station a cast member with the finance-to-be and the diver has a prepared slate that pops the question. When they meet on opposite sides of the window, he holds it up to the window for his girl to read and respond. Apparently this causes quite a stir in the observation area with everyone cooing that this is sooooo romantic.
