First promo pic

August 31, 2001. From a EW's September 7th issue--thanks alfornos .
FS says "in many ways, it's a new series." Mulder is gone for good, Scully is a mother, Gish is a full time lead, Cary Elwes has a recurring role as MR's old flame, an FBI assistant director; Lucy Lawless guests on the first 2 eps but her role is top secret, TLG will return. Krycek may be back. FS says: "Anything can happen. I would look at [Krycek's] dialogue very closely before he got shot."

August 15, 2001. From a TV Guide interview with Robert Patrick--thanks alfornos .
Can you spill any secrets about next season?

I'm going to be the baby-sitter for Scully's baby! You'll see more of what went on in Doggett's past. Monica Reyes [Annabeth Gish] and I are going to go out and do some case solving too.
Will Doggett finally get lucky?
I hope so. I honestly believe Doggett loves Scully but he doesn't want to impose himself on her. But I also think he had something going with Reyes. I'd like to see it where Doggett's got stuff going on with everybody!

August 3, 2001. From Anon Sources:
Please note, these are from early drafts of the script and may change. Please also be advised, if you are a shipper, you may want to let Season Eight be the end of the road for you:

  • Mulder and/or Scully Spoilers: The script has a scene where Doggett calls out Mulder's name searching for him, in what could be Mulder's apartment, which was unlocked. The script skips a page in what we've seen and we next have Scully telling Doggett, "He's Gone," through her sobs. Doggett "holds her wishing he could be the man to save her from this pain. Wishing away his own pain at knowing he isn't."
  • TNG Spoilers: (From Autumn T) "The EPA guy is killed by a mysterious woman he picks up in a bar. She forces them off the bridge. She also has the unique talent of being able to breath under water. This woman pops up a lot in the script running around naked and drowning people like a worker at a water treatment plant.

August 2, 2001. From Anon Sources and Autumn T. on AOL:
Please note, these are from early drafts of the script and may change:

  • Mulder and/or Scully Spoilers: The script has a scene in Scully's apartment with a man, described in the script as having "brown hair", taking a shower (he is seen behind the pebbled glass). Scully, comforting William, closes the door to the shower "to keep the man in the shower from hearing the baby cry as she tries to calm it". As Scully calms the child, she walks into the living room where there a half a dozen packed suitcases. In a later scene a sheepish Doggett appears at Scully's apartment. She tells him the baby's schedule has her up every two hours feeding. Doggett explains that he needs her help. It is unclear where 'Shower Man' (Amy note: in my happy little world, and until I hear otherwise, 'Shower Man' is Mulder) is at this time.
  • TNG Spoilers: (From Autumn T) They sort of start Act 1 with us seeing Scully, Reyes, and Doggett start their day. The Deputy Director of the EPA appears to have driven his convertible off a bridge and it is being investigated by an A.D. Brad Follmer who has ties to Reyes (Very apparent as he surprises her with a kiss in his office). Skinner has a meeting with Reyes and Doggett in which it is revealed that he is afraid of folks finding out that he's murdered someone.

July 28, 2001. From an artilce on the AP wires By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith:
If you're a twin about 2 months old, the "X-Files" may have a job for you. Seriously, folks, casting forces on the show are looking at tiny sets of twins to play the newborn baby of Scully (Gillian Anderson) -- described as a possibly recurring role -- next season.

    From screwball:
Dean Haglund was at Comic-Con International in San Diego last week, and I had the good fortune to chat with him briefly. He says that there is talk of completing _The Lone Gunmen_ cliffhanger on _The X-Files_ (although how is anyone's guess).

    From The St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
Chris Carter signed to produce a ninth season of "The X-Files" for Fox, then immediately split for a surfing vacation in Indonesia. From his boat, he filed a video message for TV critics meeting in Pasadena, but a technology foul-up made it unwatchable. Instead, Fox transcribed the message, in which Carter cited "Star Trek" as a model and said he could envision a next generation of "The X-Files." By the way, Berman, Fox Entertainment's president, confesses to having been obsessed by the Scully baby story line last season. This fall, she suggests keeping an eye on the tot and thinking of the movie "The Sixth Sense." And in case any question lingers about the baby's parentage, Berman admits that she questioned Carter about what she perceived as ambiguity in the season finale. "Look, Mulder's the father," Carter told her flatly.

July 12, 2001. From an anon source:
Please note, these are *very* early spoilers and can easily change before an episode hits the air: New FBI Agent: Male, mid 30's- early 40's. Attractive, charming, sharp, can be no-nonsense. He's very political, perhaps arrogant at times, and a good challenge to Agent Doggett. He and Agent Reyes were once romantically involved. In his current efforts to rekindle that relationship, he finds that she is no longer interested. It's rumored that this will be a recurring character.
