February 16th, 2001:
Well, let's see what to rant about for the very first of my Friday Rants.  Yesterday, I went to college as I do every Tuesday and Thursday.  I love school-It's been my main ambition in life to be a professional student, but I can't seem to find any companies advertising for such a position.  So I will graduate, then seek to further prolong my schooling by heading immediately to grad school.  Anyway-I have the unfortunate 12:15 class of Analysis of Modern English, taught by a Professor R.  I had the same Professor for an essay-writing class last semester.  I hated that class, and I am hating this one, just 2 weeks into the spring semester.  I am an English major, who seeks to write, so I can find no useful purpose in my learning phonetics, as that is merely the transcription of written sounds.  However, I am required to take this class, and so I do.  I made sure to be well studied, as we were to have a quiz on Thurday on various classes of consonant sounds, yet was informed once I got to class that we would have no quiz.  Apparently, our esteemed professor had forgotten to teach us dipthongs, and "even though they might not be on the quiz," we needed to know them.  So the professor proceeds to give us an approximately 2-minute description of the accursed sounds, and that's that.  It seems to my mind, being the daughter of a teacher, and having been a teacher myself (though I never did anything like this), that Professor R. merely forgot to make up the aformentioned quiz.  Which left me seething, as I had prepared and spent valuable time on studying--time that could have been spent doing other things, or on other subjects.  Now the quiz isTuesday next, meaning I will have to review on Monday, to be sure I haven't forgotten anything.  Thanks a lot.  In any case, we were then sent off to the Media Center to watch a video on American English and the acquisition of new words into our vocabulary.  It was dull, uninformative, and in a final insult to the horrendous day I had so far, it showed scenes of cattle roping/branding, sausage making and a fur salon.  How delightful.  But all this will hopefully be a faded memory, as tomorrow night I am going to see Coldplay and I cannot wait.  I will post a review next week!

Okay, so it's not Friday-I've been a bit pre-occupied.  But thanks to my lovely pal Kell for reminding me that I hadn't updated my rants!!  Anyway-I did *not* see Coldplay on February 17th, as the entire band apparently came down with the wretched flu.  So, I was very disappointed, but not mad at them-it wasn't their fault, after all (well, they *could* have taken better care of themselves...but no matter).  I was then supposed to see Doves on Feb. 26th...I didn't get to see them because I couldn't get anyone to go with me, and I'm not into going to a club alone, then catching a subway and walking the streets of Boston alone after midnight. *sigh* So, I'm very happy to have my tickets to see Placebo on May 26th, which happens to be a big day for concerts around here.  Sting will be at the Fleet Center (more about him in a minute), and that's also the day of the WBCN River Rave at Foxboro Stadium.  Marilyn Manson is headlining...I hate him, I think he's a no-talent poseur.  *But* Coldplay is one of the bands on the lineup!  I was sooooooooo upset.  But I'd rather catch a full-on Placebo show than catch a set from Coldplay amongst the River Rave insanity, so there you go.  Oh, right-about Sting!  My sister loves him, and as we are going to be in the UK from July 2-July 30th (woo-hoo!), I got us tickets to see him at Cardiff Castle on July 27th.  She is so completely excited.  It should be fun, provdided the foot-and-mouth crisis doesn't prevent us from going everywhere!  So that's pretty much all, please excuse any spelling errors, I'm really not a moron.  And the Manic Street Preachers' new album, "Know Your Enemy," is released in England on Monday, the 19th.  I've pre-ordered it, so I should have it sometime next week, rahhhh!  It promises to be really good, and from everything I've heard off it so far, I think it will be.

What's that you say?  it's been moths since I've written here?  it's true, it has.  But not cuz I was lazy or anything.  Silly Yahoo! has been having problems with itself, and PageBuilder, which I use for this stie, wasn't loading, grrrr.  But now I've tried on another machine, and it's working, yay!  So lots of updates today, kiddies.  Let's see...I did see Placebo and Coldplay, at last.  Little summaries of those are linked at the homepage.  I'm still planning this trip to the UK, it's only about a month away, I can't believe it!  It's going to be so exciting, I just hope I can get a job when I get back.  I don't know what I'll do without this one, it's been so great for over 2 years.  *sigh*  Well, I'm sure God has something lined up for me, I just have to be patient, I guess.  I saw Memento, which was *awesome*.  I recommend it to everyone, Guy Pearce is outstanding in it, and it was the first chance I got to see Carrie-Ann Moss after The Matrix, and she was great, too.  Well, I guess that's it.  Less ranting than usual, eh?  Ooooooh, before I forget-Know Your Enemy was one of the spottiest records that I've ever heard.  Some really really really great stuff, alongside some really crap stuff.  Which I ordered from a website, never received (due to work mail problems, I think) so I had to buy it in the shop!!!!!!  Gah!  for a lot, and then realized it was being realeased domestically for cheaper!!! D'oh.  But anyway...heh, there, I ranted a bit!

Ack! Twice in one week!  How about that?  Well, today's rant is a bit more of a love-fest than a rant.  I'm just so grateful to God for all the wonderful things he's done for me.  Right now, I am in a really good position to be making a bit of extra money so I can really have a great time on my UK trip, which is exactly one month from today! Aaaaaaaa!  I feel good about it all, as I try to to even consider what will happen to me when i get back, as I will have no job.  But that's a worry for a much later day. But other than that, my life is really really good!  I'm actually amazed!

Hey there again!  It's just 8 working days and counting until I leave Verizon forever.  *sigh* NOt that this is a great company by any means...actually, i don't work for them, I work for a temp agenct--but it's been a really great job to have for the past 3 years, and I've learned a lot, and it's been stable work.  So I guess it's just a little worrying for me to be leaving--but hey, the UK calls!  Which reminds me, A.I opens this weekend, hopefully I'll get right out to see it, and Jude Law was on the TOday show this morning, looking quite fine, in spite of his new buzzed haircut.  And, I finally bought the Dido album yesterday, I've been wnating it for awhile.  It's really good, I like it a lot, in fact.  I think I like her better than Sarah Maclachlan, whom she's so often compared to.  I also bought the debut album by this band called Ours, and I haven't listened to it all the way through, and I'm not sure I like it.  Oh, well.  But I saw Bridget Jones's (punctualtionally incorrect) diary over the weekend, and that was terrific.  Renee Zellwgeer is such a delightful actress, and she seems to have a great knack for picking roles--good women who are strong and yet vulnerable, who often don't realize how strong they are, and who don't need a man to find themselves, but often to end up with one anyway (think Dorothy in Jerry Maguire, Nurse Betty herself, and now Bridget.)
