Intended Flavor: Chocolate cake with strawberries on a plain stick. Review Date: April 7, 2005 Japan is rather well known for astounding accuracy in its mass production. Its action figures usually look like cels come to life; its Everyburger candy bears a disturbingly spot-on resemblance to a hamburger. Thus, that Glico would make a version of Pocky advertised as looking "just like a decoration cake on a stick!" shouldn't be too surprising. How well did they do it? More importantly, do their snozzberries taste like snozzberries? Respectively, my answers are "perfectly" and "not exactly." This Decorer Pocky looks almost the same as the box's picture. The colors are a tad less vivid, but otherwise the box art could really be any two sticks from any package of Fraise au Chocolat. I have seen professionally decorated cakes with the frosting applied less neatly. I'm genuinely impressed. Though it's not entirely like cake, Fraise au Chocolat is still tasty. Unfortunately, "strawberries with chocolate" here tastes like "STRAWBERRIES!!! with chocolate." The chocolate serves as color contrast only. Fortunately, the strawberry flavor is sweet, clear, and light. This would make a disappointing cake, but works great as a candy. If only Glico could match flavors the way they do appearances, their candies would reign unquestioned, loved and respected by all. For now, they remain rather tasty.
