Artist: Ikushima Hiroshi Published: June 23, 1991 Pages: 48: 40 manga, 3 art/text, 2 4-koma/text, 2 all-text Size: B5 Cover: Smooth thick nonglossy paper. Tri-color. Interior: Black ink on white paper. The paper is rough but not thin. Genre: WAFF, normal Characters: Piccolo and Gohan, with brief appearances by Goku and Chichi Rating: G This great doujinshi contains only one story. That's right: One 40-page story, a rarity in doujinshi. In this book, Gohan somehow talks/bribes/blackmails Piccolo into taking him to West City Dezeny Land, a theme park owned by Uranai Baba. Piccolo begrudgingly accompanies him around the park for a day, not even pretending to have fun. Gohan rents a Polaroid camera and ambushes Piccolo for two photos... The conclusion of the story is extremely cute and sweet. The art isn't beautiful, but it's perfect for the story. It's true to Toriyama's style but also distinctive, and looks to me like what Toriyama might draw if he were in a hurry or tired. The unpolished art fits the story and doesn't detract from it in the least. The characters all look just as they should. The technical skill on the art is above-average, with spot-on perspective, anatomy, and fabric folding. And the characters' expressions are excellent. Unfortunately, it loses style points for cheap paper and sloppily-written text. The printing is very clear, but the paper is oddly rough. All the writing in the story is done by hand, and a lot of the kanji are extremely difficult to decipher. Luckily, the story is perfectly clear without words. This doujinshi is excellent, and it's like crack for Piccolo and kid Gohan fans. Plus, it's free of creepy yaoi overtones. Unfortunately, it seems to be very rare -- the copy I own is the only one I've ever seen. Good luck to you if you want one for yourself.
