1850's

The basket origin is the Great Basin, Nevada; the Washo-Paiute people. Best guess is that is was made by a woman named Tootsy Dick Sam who died in 1928.The construction is called 1-rod coiled (the design is woven onto that) and it is made of willow. The design is probably either redbud or mountain birch. She is known to have used the diamond pattern. Some of her work is in the Peabody museum, Harvard University. The value has been determined to be between $800.00 and $1,000.00
