Music and Lyrics: Assman
The topic of this song is one that I firmly believe
in. I very much dislike organizations like the Royal Canadian Sea
Cadets (and other Cadet organizations) which exist to teach youth military
values and such. Yeah, yeah...I know that we need a military because
the people of this planet are assholes and want lots of power. Without
a military we couldn't defend ourselves against the commies and the Middle
East menace, blah, blah, blah. OK, I'll deal with that because that's
the way of the world, but please, let the kids be kids. When they're
18 or, whatever fucking age you have to be to join the military, let them
make that decision at that time. Until then let the kids be real
people. I always wanted to write a song based on my feelings about
Cadets (the organization, not the kids). I guess I started the lyrics
in 1993, but didn't get them complete at the time. In 1994 I was
inspired to finish what I had started and ended up with the words that
are now on the CD. In mid 1994 I got together with Jason Parkes to
do some four track recording. Jason had a few songs that he had written,
which we recorded. These songs were One Ton Hun, Grounded, and another
song that I cannot remember the name of. I'm not sure why Jason never
used any of these songs with the bands he later had. They were really
good. Anyway, after these were done I decided to do something with
Cadet. I recorded a four track demo then with Jason helping out on
guitar. Without Jason the main guitar riff wouldn't quite sound the
same. The song became a part of the SDFS set right from the beginning.
For the recording I wanted the march part at the beginning to sound like
a bunch of cadets doing their thing, so we recruited some high school students
to march on the spot on Ron's basement steps while chanting the Hup-two-three-four
line. I think it worked out nicely. Thanks guys!

Hup two three four
Teach our kids to fight in war
Hup two three four
When they're dead we won't be sore
Hup two three four
Some will get shot in the head
Hup two three four
They'll be heroes when they're dead
Give them discipline, it's what they need
Throw them into the military
But they're too young for the Navy
We'll call them cadets, that really scares
me
Brainwash kids to be society's puppets
Don't leave them free to live on their own
Make them believe they enjoy the control
Manufacture youth to be soldier clones
It's about time we learned the truth
We're creating our own version of the Hitler
Youth
Maybe you don't give a damn
But my kid ain't going to the slaughter like
a lamb
Give them a gun and a uniform
Tell them it all leads to glory
They'll grow up a part of the war machine
When they're dead we'll be so sorry
Let's waste their summer down at Quadra
Run them through drills on water and land
In a few more years they'll be ready to fight
Let them think they're free but from life they've
been banned
It's about time we learned the truth
We're creating our own version of the Hitler
Youth
Maybe you don't give a damn
But my kid ain't going to the slaughter like
a lamb
It's time you learned what you've created
Canada's worst fucking institution
If we can teach peace in our country
We might yet end this child prostitution
It's about time we learned the truth
We're creating our own version of the Hitler
Youth
Maybe you don't give a damn
But my kid ain't going to the slaughter like
a lamb
Hup two three four
Teach our kids to fight in war
Hup two three four
When they're dead we won't be sore
Hup two three four
Some will get shot in the head
Hup two three four
They'll be heroes when they're dead
Hup two three four
Teach our kids to fight in war
Hup two three four
When they're dead we won't be sore
Hup two three four
Some will get shot in the head
Hup two three four
They'll be heroes when they're dead
Shot in the head...
