PARADISE ALLEY
Kitimat Hotel, Friday August
7
Wow. How awful an experience
can seeing a live band possibly be? The only thing more difficult
and painful than writing this was actually being at the performance.
Where did the Hotel dig up these guys? These guys are one of those
bar bands that go around to small town bars playing cover songs all night
because either they are not capable of writing original music, or they
just can't be bothered to do it, because that would require more effort
than they think it is worth. I am embarrassed to say that this is
my third time seeing these guys, but the only reason I did this time was
because I didn't know they were playing until I got to the bar. I
felt ripped off by the cover charge of $3, not only because I didn't like
the band, but also because the Hotel doesn't serve any good beer so I had
to settle with drinking Bud all night. It's funny, the last two times
I saw these guys (the last time they opened for Trooper, a story I won't
get into), they actually had a real drummer. I guess they figure
they'll each make more money without one, as they are now a power duo with
a drum machine. Frankly, I don't really give a shit if a band plays
cover songs. I won't like it, but I have come to expect it from bands
that have played the Hotel. These guys, though, broke the rule of
doing a covers set by playing the two songs that I use to judge how bad
a cover band really is. I'm embarrassed for any band that stoops
so low as to play Roxy Roller or Smoke On The Water in their set, and these
guys did both. Oh yeah, when the guitarist broke into a rendition
of Van Halen's "Eruption" it was the icing on the poo-poo cake. It
was a sad night indeed. I talked to several people who actually appreciate
a "good" cover band, and let's just say, they thought these guys sucked.
I guess I could have reviewed this show with only one word...SHIT!
