Sendoh's heart pounded painfully against his ribcage as he fought hard to control his raising panic.

"Yuki!" he yelled into the foaming darkness.

Fire raged fiercely around Sendoh but he felt nothing; all his senses drowned by the paralyzing mixture of fear and loss. Suddenly, a flame crackled ominously to his right and with reflexes born out of animal instinct, he spun around in a blur as he narrowly dodged aside another cut by the katana and……

……stared at the face of his attacker.

Sendoh gasped in shock when he recognized those eyes; notably the sinister lustrous hue emitting from the one of the iris. In fact, the man before him was powerfully built; muscles ripped visibly beneath the black-form fitting suit as he cautiously stepped back to size Sendoh up. A pair of sharp, fang like teeth was bared as he slowly drew back his thin pale lips in a derisive smile.

"……another pathetic prey." Unexpectedly, his coarse voice conjured the disturbing image of Yuki falling to her death…..

……and it seared Sendoh more than the scorching flames.

Suddenly, he felt his anger rose swiftly within him, thawing away the chill of fear, gradually burning away the panic; ultimately, his fighting spirits was rekindled. Sendoh tentatively stepped away from the collapsed balcony, his blue eyes never leaving his opponent as he did so. Clenching both his fists, he willed his chaotic emotions to subside.

"……ah……I see that you've lost your mate." The older man mocked.

Sendoh's eyes flashed a dangerous shade of sapphire as he readied himself in a defense stance.

"Don't f*** with me."

She was falling.

The howling wind roared into her ears and its icy coldness burned her open wounds as they mercilessly knifed through her torn fabric. Squeezing her eyes shut, she involuntary gasped in pain.

In vain.

The thick velvet cover of the night swirled past her in a blinding flash, her long auburn hair snapped wildly around her as she sped towards the darkness beneath.

Towards Death.

She knew her life was now literally between Life and Death……and within seconds, she would make hard contact with the grassy plains, smashing her bones into a million pieces. And to have her survive that fall would take a miracle such as……

An outstretched branch caught the side of her torso, its rough bark ripping into her flesh, sending fresh bout of blood and pain through her. Then, yet another branch caught her back squarely, crisply snapping into two as she broke through the thick canopy.

By now, her jaws were already numb from clenching her teeth so hard, her gums bloody as she clenched her teeth and bit her lips to contain herself from screaming aloud.

Then without warning, darkness enveloped her.

All at once, the man in black leapt up into the air with his katana raised above his head. Instead of evading his attack, Sendoh swiftly knelt down and with a perfectly timed punch, delivered an uppercut directly to his jaw as he descended upon him, again narrowly missing the katana. Then, he pressed his attack again with another well-aimed kick in his abdomen.

However, Sendoh realized in surprise that his opponent didn't even flinch from his double attack and cursed quietly when he saw the side of his lips curling up in a demonic grin. Without a second thought, Sendoh immediately leapt away from the mysterious attacker for he knew that this would be no ordinary fight.

Sendoh's mentally accessed his opponent once more; quick, fast and deadly. Most importantly, he was immune to pain; either by drugs or by self-induction which was a special self-hypnotizing process on oneself to simply disregard pain.

The intruder slowly leveled his katana, its tip pointing towards Sendoh as he altered his attack stance. Sendoh narrowed his eyes and searched around for a weapon. Then he sported one amid the flames.

Perfect.

Decided, he reached out to grab the broken metal pole, grimacing a bit when he did so as he grimly preparing himself for his another attack.

A strong gust of wind swept into the ruined room, fanning the surrounding fire into bigger flames, sending even more ashes drifting in the already smoky interior. A few stack of papers; burnt and unburned, suddenly broke lose from the shelves and the they flew around frenziedly. Glass fragments shot at them as one of the windows cracked in the fierce heat.

Without warning, with a sped that defied physics, the assailant thrust forward.

It all happened in a blur, with him propelling forward and Sendoh leaping forward instead of away. Then, there was an unmistakable sound of the metal clashing against metal amid the flying papers. Finally, when the papers had settled down, both of them were already in the opposite corners of the room, kneeling with their backs facing each other.

The older man stood up first. "……you reckless fool……my katana spared no one."

Sendoh slowly got up to his feet and this seemed to surprise the man a bit. Suddenly, his evil eyes flashed ominously.

A smile spread across Sendoh's face as he turned around to face him. "Sorry to disappoint you……you only managed to damage this." As if on cue, the pole he was holding suddenly snapped apart into two. "Btw, you should also check your precious katana." He sarcastically remarked.

The intruder quickly held out the Japanese long knife before him; there was a deep crack in the contact point between the blade and the hilt; it had drastically weaken the structure of his katana.

Nani!? His eyes immediately sought out the metal pole which Sendoh had used an impromptu weapon. Then he realized that there were blisters on his palm.

So ka (I see), the high temperature had weakened the attack; that was why it only managed to cut through the metal and not flesh.

Suddenly, a distant siren could be heard.

"……your quick wit has saved you from being sliced." The lustrous hue emitting from the one of his iris gleamed more brightly, "but there will not be a next time."

With that, he leapt fluidly out of the window and melted away into the darkness.

Everywhere, there was smoke. Thick, vicious, acrid and suffocating. Sendoh covered his nose as he crouched low close to the floor where the smoke was thinner. It was nearly impossible for him to see clearly where he was going and he had to pause for a moment to recall the layout of the house.

There was a great deal of glass doors and windows - an easy exit - but getting there was a problem; like the exit which the mysterious man had used. Flames were everywhere but the smoke posed an even more serious problem; the longer he stayed the lesser chance of his escape.

He knew that 12 feet beyond lay safety and most importantly, Yuki. He had no idea whether she managed to survive the fall but had hoped feverishly that she did. Pushing aside disquieting thoughts, he closed his eyes and centered his Sight. Eventually, he saw the safe way out.

Sendoh sprinted around the sectional and leapt over a fallen beam through a narrow patch of flames. The sudden smell of singed hair sickened him. Then he felt the collapse of a wooden frame, eaten through by the ferocious fire. He did not need to see it coming and jerked himself away sharply to his left.

The heavy flaming beam clashed down, its edge slamming into the upper part of his forearm. His skin began to burn, its nauseating smell filling the air. Sendoh wrapped his hand around that spot as he turned sideways, crashed through the safety glass of the slider and out to the open.

Then he saw her.

She was just a few feet away, lying there with her long hair fanning around her. He got up and reached for her, each step accompanied by both a tremor of fear and utter dread.

What if……?

Her pulse was weak but at least she was alive. Sendoh nearly cried out in relief as he bent over and embraced her. Then he stroked her hair and began to scoop her up protectively in his arms. Already, he could hear the sirens approaching and the sounds of people nearing. Time was running out.

There were no guards around as he made his way towards the back gate where his black Porsche was waiting. Carefully, he laid her in the backseat before climbing in behind the wheel. He turned the key and the engine roared into life. Without switching on the headlights, he eased out the clutch and floored the accelerator.
