SeaCrest Keeshonden

Keeshond Rescue
100% Recycled Kees!

Happy, a 5 year old Rescue from a Nebraska Puppy Mill. He was bought with 6 other Kees by the Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation. All dogs are now in permanent homes including Happy who resides in Idaho.

What is rescue? Every breed of dog has a rescue group. These groups take dogs that for some reason have lost their homes, have been abandoned or are strays. These dogs are then spayed or neutered, given shots and adopted out for a small adoption fee to screened homes. Ages range from puppy-hood to elderly. Many dogs are already trained, and housebroken. Contrary to popular belief adult dogs bond just as quickly as puppies to their owners and rescue dogs seem to know they've lucked out.

Keeshond Rescue: Keeshonden are blessed with a strong rescue network and solid volunteer core. Both the Keeshond Club of America and The American Keeshond Society have rescue funds along with a new group called the Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation. This group was started over the internet. Keeshond Rescue also has another group affiliated with the KSRF called the Keeshond Rescue & Railroad. Made up of volunteers this group railroads or transports dogs all over the country to foster care and/or their new homes. To date the KRR boasts of 350 members. The longest run to date is one from Omaha NE to Portland OR equalling 1800 miles!!!

Rescue vs. a Reputable Breeder: If you are wavering between a puppy or a rescue here are some things to consider.

Rescue Pluses: You're saving a life. By adopting a rescue dog you're making room for one more to come into the system. NOTHING can replace that feeling. A rescue may already be trained/housebroken and come with manners. An adult rescue is past the puppy chewies, the teenage trials and the adolescent woes. A rescue has his adult temperament intact and there for you to see.

Puppy Pluses: when buying from a reputable breeder (as opposed to a Backyard Breeder* or Pet Store*) your puppy will come with a health guarentee. Looks, temperament, and health of parents, grandparents, and great grandparents are known. A reputable breeder will offer training tips, help with problems and a support network the dog's entire life.

Adopting a Rescue: If you are interested in adopting a rescue, or would like more info on Keeshond or purebred rescue check out Keeshond Rescue for bios of some of the available dogs If you would like further information on what is required to adopt a dog contact Rescue is truly the best kept secret in how to acquire a dog. Currently foster homes are overflowing with dogs needing new homes. Rescue really DOES hold the "Kees to your Heart."
