This page explains the browsers I test in my pages. I give them rankings (1 = Best, 5 = Worst). For reference see the Compatibility Tables.
Internet Explorer 6
• Overall Rank: #5 (last)
I don’t know why I even bother testing my pages in IE 6. It supports none of CSS3, not even one aspect. It’s here because it controls 90% of the browser market.
Opera 7.23
• Overall Rank: #4
I was suprised at Opera. It seems to be far behind in CSS3 support. It doesn’t support any of the new Attribute selectors. It has some catching up to do. On the positive point it supports box-sizing and overwriting content.
Mozilla Firefox 0.8
• Overall Rank: #3
One of my favourite browsers (love the logo). I was kinda suprised with how it supported all three of the new Attribute Selectors. It is listed as a seperate browser from 1.7b because there are some differences between them.
Mozilla 1.7b
• Overall Rank: #2
The tested version’s build ID is 2004041208. 1.7b has made some major advances from 1.6. 1.7b was the first browser to support the ~ selector (though in some of the first builds of 1.7b it doesn’t work), and the second to support opacity. Adequate CSS3 support seems to be a goal of the Mozilla team.
Safari 1.2
• Overall Rank: #1
I was completely blown away by Safari 1.2’s CSS3 support. It was the first browser to support opacity, and it was the first browser to support any new pseudo class in CSS3, the :selection pseudo-class (not to mention all three attribute selectors as well). But Mozilla 1.7b is a close second place. I suspect these browsers are trying to outdo eachother in CSS3 support.
