Second SEAPAVAA Conference planned 



          The second General Assembly Meeting and Conference of the South East Asia Pacific Archives Association (SEAPAVAA) is planned for 17-21 March 1997 in Jakarta, Indonesia. This was the major item discussed on the agenda of SEAPAVAA's Second Executive Council Meeting held in Jakarta on 1-4 October 1996.
          The weeklong conference which is proposed to be jointly hosted by various institutions in Indonesia involved in AV archiving such as the Department of Information as lead institution, Sinematic Indonesia, National Archives of Indonesia, National Library and PT Indosiar, will include a two-day general assembly meeting, symposia and film screenings, institutional visits, and excursion.
          Topics for the symposia will revolve around the proposed theme, "AV Archive: Empowerment Towards Year 2000", which adopts "empowerment" as an approach in inspiring and hastening the development of AV archiving in the region as the year 2000 approaches.
          During its October meeting, the executive council took the opportunity to establish face to face relationships with relevant key individuals and organizations in Jakarta. The council met with Mr. Dewabrata, Director-General of the Radio-Television-Film, Department of Information; Mr. Narto Erawan, Director, Directorate of Film and Video Development; Ibu Mastini Hardjoprakoso, National Librarian, National Library of Indonesia; Dr. Noerhadi Magetsari, Director-General, National Archives of Indonesia; Mr. Santoso Tandio, Manager of External Affairs Division of PT Indosiar Visual Mandiri, and Misbach Biran of Sinematek Indonesia.
          Other matters discussed during the meeting were the committee reports and proposed committee membership, country projects/activities in archiving, ASEAN-related projects and decisions, international projects/activities in archiving (Memory of the World Project and UNESCO's AV Round Table), preparations for 1997-98 SEAPAVAA conferences, relations with other federations and organizations, affiliations, and SEAPAVAA policy, systems, and procedures.
