I extend a warm invitation to you all to this year’s annual conference. We are meeting together with the South East Asian - Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association (SEAPAVAA) and our local hosts are the National Archives of Singapore. The event marks the wish of both associations to work together in the many areas of common interest, and the structure of the conference sessions will enable the sharing of information and perspectives at all levels of our work.

The theme of the conference, "A future for the past" is broadly based and we will be addressing new developments and professional issues across the range of our work from selection, through preservation to access, and including training, copyright, and the application of new technology.

The conference venue promises a rewarding and enjoyable five days. Singapore is a modern city rich in cultural interest and with entertainment to suit every taste. Our local hosts have negotiated very favourable terms for participants’ accommodation, and a range of attractive events supporting the main conference programme. The main conference venue, the Hotel Inter-Continental is centrally located and I am sure you will find it comfortable environment.
