INVITATION FROM
THE HOST INSTITUTION

We now live in the world of IT, moving images and sound. We now preserve our memories in different media reflecting the changing times. Are you interested in learning how to better preserve the audiovisual collection, which you have taken so much time and effort to record? If so, we invite you to the conference to draw inspiration, insight, new ideas, and support to meet your aim.

The IASA-SEAPAVAA Conference 2000, on the theme A FUTURE FOR THE PAST: AV ARCHIVING IN THE 3rd MILLENNIUM and taking place in Singapore from 3rd to 7th July, is just what you need. This conference will bring together the best audiovisual archivists and practitioners to share with us the latest in the field of technical advances in audiovisual production and preservation. In looking to the future, we will also need to pause and look back at the past, thus the title "A Future for the Past."

This conference is a first in many ways:

  • the first joint conference between IASA & SEAPAVAA;

  • the first time that IASA is holding a conference in this part of Asia; and

  • the first time that the National Archives of Singapore is hosting a conference on the subject of audio-visual heritage and archives.

This conference represents a meeting of minds from different parts of the world & we at the National Archives of Singapore are proud to be associated with it.

We hope that in addition to business, the conference will allow for interaction among attendees with opportunities to share ideas during the coffee breaks and the social events. The institutional visits and the trade show by local and overseas vendors on audiovisual products and services will provide opportunities for us to keep abreast of developments. In addition, there will be a display of film posters from the Southeast Asia-Pacific region, as well as an exhibition on Singapore’s film history during the conference week. We will make sure that there will be free time during the conference for you to take in the local sights, taste the local cuisine & shop to your heart’s content.

Please join us for the conference. We look forward to meeting you in sunny Singapore - the gateway to Asia!
