LINKS
The first four links are primarily for the benefit of Mr. Peter Beattie (Premier of Queensland, Australia), and Mr. Paul Lucas (Minister of Transport, Queensland, Australia). There is a feeling, amongst some parents, that recent Queensland Department of Transport "Schoolbus Seat-Belt Trials" may be used to "prove" that children won't wear belts on school buses - or that belts are "impractical" in some other way. The information below demonstrates (unequivocally), that in the year 2004, it is possible for motivated and responsible adults to problem-solve/overcome obstacles - and it is also possible for them educate children in correct safety procedures.
This logo (to the left), links to an extensive memo from Charles Szuberla (Co-ordinator of the Office of Educational Management Services, State Education Dept., New York State, U.S.A), dated Nov. 1998. It details the research undertaken by the New York State Education Dept. about encouraging children to wear seatbelts in school buses (1997). |
This logo links to a lesson plan designed to teach children about the use of seatbelts - and also refers (in one section), to the use of seatbelts on school buses. |

"The Primer" |
This link is to "The Primer," quote:- "Coalition for Child Safety (CCS) is an informal group, formed on 31 January 1990, in Oro Valley (in the NW "Greater Tucson," Arizona, area). CCS's envisioned purview includes lobbying for legislation which mandates seatbelts on school buses and which addresses seatbelt-related safety issues. This Primer is also aimed at helping CCS members to prepare their presentations of concerns about the current lack of seatbelts on Amphi- District school buses, to the Amphi Board"

This link is to Professor Joubert's submission to the "Queensland School Transport Safety Task Force" (2001). His submission includes this quote:- "This brings us to one of my main points, namely, bus accidents with school children and especially coaches on freeways at high speed may be rare events but when they occur they are so horrific as to bring the wrath of God and especially the wrath of the parents of the children upon the heads of the bureaucrats and the members of the investigating committees who hide behind statistics for their lack of proper protection of school children." |
