Episode 24

Scene 1:

"Thanks so much for staying the night, Dinah," Jamie said waving to her as she stepped off the porch towards her car. She waved back and climbed into her car. He watched her drive away before turning back to his two small boys. They watched him with eyes round with excitement and fear. "You two are awfully quiet," he said kneeling in front of them. "What's the matter?"

"Where's Mom?" Chris asked as spokesman for the duo.

"She's resting at the hospital with your new sister. Aren't you excited to have a sister?" Chris shrugged and looked down at Jesse who nodded feverishly. "What's the matter Chris?"

"Nothin'. Just want Mom to be okay..."

"She is, trust me," Jamie cut in. "And so is Lily. They're both fine. I don't want either of you to worry okay?" Chris nodded and looked to Jesse who offered them both a toothy grin. "Good. I don't know about you guys but your dad is exhausted. Think you can be quiet for a little bit so I can take a nap?"

"Sure. Come on Jess." Chris tugged on Jesse's arm and led him to the family room where Jamie heard the television turn on and the sounds of Dexter's Laboratory filter through the room. He smiled to himself as he climbed the stairs. They were good boys both of them. He would have to remember to reward them later after Lily and Michaela came home. He pushed the door to the master bedroom open and sank onto the bed. It had been a ridiculously long night and he was relieved it was over. His eye caught sight of the phone on the nightstand and, on impulse, he picked it up and dialed Hope's Cove...Bryce and Susanna to be exact.

Michaela and her brother weren't the closest siblings in the world, but at least they spoke more than he spoke with his own sister. He dialed the Robinson number in Florida and waited while it rang. He heard the line pick up and grinned as Bryce said hello.

"Bryce, it's Jamie," he said. "Michaela had the baby this morning."

"She did? That's great! So, boy or girl?"

"Girl...Lily Celeste Mason," Jamie said proudly. "Seven pounds, 8 ounces. Looks just like her mother."

"That'll make her happy I am sure. Well, congratulations Dad!" Bryce laughed.

"Thanks...you guys should come up and see us soon. The boys miss Susanna and the twins."

"I'll tell her when she gets back. She's out of town right now. Off doing something...and did she not call you to tell you about Zack?"

"No, who's Zack?"

"We adopted a baby boy. He's a beauty. I guess we will have to come up and see you guys."

"Yeah, look tell Susie I said hi. I've got to get some sleep before I keel over." He said good bye and replaced the receiver on the phone. It had been a long night, but a great one nonetheless.

Scene 2:

"And she has the most beautiful skin," Gwen cooed over breakfast at Four Winds. Hallie rolled her eyes and excused herself. The last thing she needed to hear over toast was how adorable Jamie's kid was. She had far more important things to do...like make arrangements for her engagement gala. And one arrangement was for a special guest.

She crept into Gwen's office and closed the door behind her. She needed a quiet place for this phone call and this office was the most private room in the house. Dialing quickly, she settled into Gwen's leather chair.

"Hello?" Hallie smiled at the drawl of the voice on the other end. You could leave Virginia but it never left you, she thought absently.

"Hi Ellen. It's Hallie. Before you say a word, what are you doing in two weeks?"

"I'll have to consult my calendar. Why do you ask?" Hallie smiled at Ellen's question. She and Ellen were more like sisters than cousins. Hallie wanted Ellen close by for the next few months and this was the first step in getting her here. She was a good ally. It also helped that she couldn't stand her own mother.

"Well, Gwen has agreed to let me hold my engagement party at Four Winds. I would love it if you were able to come. Please say yes, El."

"Hal, you know I don't really want to see my mother," Ellen protested.

"I know, but do it for me. Besides, Jamie's here in the Glen too and his wife just had a baby."

"What? I didn't know he was back. With a wife?"

"You know who else is back? Jude."

"Jude and Jamie? You must be having fun. Sounds like you could use me there. Look, Hal, it isn't that I don't want to come for you, it's just that...I would have to see my mother. I could care less about Jamie and his ridiculous family. But...my mother? You're asking a lot of me."

"I know. But I really want you here for it. Please say you'll think about it at the very least?" Hallie let Ellen think about it for a moment but she knew Ellen would say yes. Just as Jude had agreed to Jamie's plans, Ellen would agree to Hallie's.

"Okay, I'll think about it."

"That's all I ask." Hallie hung the phone up and leaned back in the chair again. With Ellen here, she would be a good distraction for Gwen. They were working on one for Jude and that left Jamie. She hadn't thought of anything yet, but the new baby wouldn't hurt at all. Not at all.

On the next Episode of Secret Horizons...

Oh," Maura sighed. "An old college friend of mine is in town. He's the editor of The Observer now. He didn't really upset me, he just has a way of getting to me. How about you? Who upset you?"

"Hallie. She's a brat and I know she's a brat but she just rubs me the wrong way sometimes."
