I wrote for my non-identifying information twice. The first request came on 05-08-92 which was only 3 pages long. The second request arrived 07-26-96 which is the one I am writing now. It was much more detailed. According to the information in the record, my birth mother and her husband were referred to Florida Department of Public Welfare by the hospital social worker. They had informed the hospital social worker that it was their plan to release their unborn child for adoption. They were referred to the local adoption program for adoption planning services. My birth mother and her husband, who was not my birth father were first seen by the case worker on February 12, 1969. (I was born March 11, 1969) My birth mother and her husband stated that they had only been married for a week. My birth mother and her husband were both natives of a Mid Western state. (The midwestern states are Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, N. Dakota, S. Dakota, and Wisconsin). My birth mother stated that as soon as possible after the marriage, they left their home state and came to Florida. My birth mother stated that they came to Florida because neither of their families were aware of her pregnancy and it was their wish that neither family ever find out what the situation was. At the time of the interview my birth mother and her husband were staying with friends. My birth mother and her husband stated that they would stay with these friends until after my birth and until they could get settled into a place of their own. The case worker questioned my birth mother and her husband as to their future plans. My birth mother's husband was able to secure a job at a major department store in the area. (The only major department stores in the area then were Maas Brothers and Sears). They both stated that they felt that they would like to stay in the area after my birth. However, the case worker stated in the record that she doubted that they would remain in the state for very long after my birth, and it seemed to her, that my birth parents had only moved to Florida for the purpose of concealing her pregnancy from family and friends and placing my for adoption. My birth mother was advised that the Florida Department of Public Welfare would assist her in adoption planning. However, they would not be able to offer any financial assistance as my birth mother was married and it was so late in her pregnancy. My birth mother and her husband stated that they understood this and would be paying the hospital and medical bills in weekly installment from the husbands earnings. This arrangement was made both with the doctor and with the hospital. My birth mother was described as being five feet, four inches tall and normally weighing 100 pounds. She had dark brown hair and hazel eyes with a fair clear complexion. My birth mother was of the Catholic faith and was of Irish and German descent. My birth mother reported that she was born in the Summer of 1950 and that she was one of five children born to her parents. She had one brother who was older than she, and the rest of her siblings were all younger. She had one sister and three brothers. My birth mother reported that her father was employed in a co-op feed mill. He had completed the eighth grade. My maternal grandfather was reported to be five feet, ten inches tall. He had the same coloring as my birth mother. My maternal grandmother was also reported to have the same coloring as my birth mother, and also being five feet, four inches tall. When I was born she was employed as a secretary for a newspaper office. She was a high school graduate. My birth mother reported that her own health was good as was the health of her parents and her siblings. My birth mother provided the following information about my birth father. My birth father was a native of the same Mid West state as my birth mother. My birth mother stated that he had been raised there and had lived there all of his life. When I was born he was 22 years old. He was a high school graduate and was employed as a factory worker. My birth father was also of Irish and German descent. My birth mother did not know his religious affiliation. My birth mother reported that my birth father was the oldest of five or six children. His father was the owner of a small farm in their community. No information is provided about the employment of my paternal grandmother. My birth mother reported that as far as she knew the health of my birth father's family was normal. My birth father was reported to be five feet, eight inches tall with a slender build. He had light brown hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. It is not stated in the record if your birth father knew of the pregnancy. When questioned as to why she and gotten pregnant by your birth father and then married another man, my birth mother shrugged off the question and simply did not answer the case worker. The hospital social worker informed the case worker that my birth mother had had a previous child born out of wedlock. The record contains no other information about this child. My birth mother neither confirmed this or denied it when confronted by the case worker with this information. She simply stated that she had been married to her husband in a church ceremony and that they had left their home state in order to conceal the pregnancy. My birth mother stated that she and her husband wished to release my for adoption because I was not her husband's child. Both my birth mother and my legal father, my birth mother's husband signed the surrender papers on March 12, 1969. (Is that legal) The record does not indicate any further contact with your birth mother after she signed her consents for the hospital to release you to the case worker from the Florida Department of Public Welfare. According to the information in the record, my birth mother's husband was from the same Mid West state as my birth mother. He stated that he had known my birth mother for six years. He seemed to be a very placid contented person having a pleasant smile. During the interviews he took the passive role and let my birth mother do all of the talking. He only responded to those questions that were asked directly. My birth mother's husband was a high school graduate, and he had formerly worked as a truck driver and in a restaurant. He reported that he had worked in a chain restaurant for three or four years and at the time that he left to come to Florida the chain restaurant that he worked for was planning to take him into management training. Since the Florida Department of Public Welfare did not pay my birth mother's medical and hospital bills, the adoption record does not contain a copy of my birth mother's medical records. Without the medical records, she was unable to give me my time of birth. The information in the record only states that I was born "the morning of March 11, 1969". At birth I weighed six pounds, fifteen ounces. I also had a red birth mark on my forehead. However, the physician who delivered me stated that he thought I was a healthy baby and that there should not be a problem placing me for adoption. I later became ill and had to be hospitalized several times for a heart condition. I am healthy now. I found my final judgment of Adoption dated August 7, 1974 signed by Circuit Judge Frank Schaub case No. 74-1662-CA-01. I found a lot of correspondence between my adoptive family and the caseworker. It came from HRS Division of Family Services P.O. Box 2258 Ft. Myers, FL 33902. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. I really want to find my mom and my sibling and the rest of the family if possible. God bless each of you. 1-941-497-6306 505 Bahama Rd. Venice, FL 34293
