It has come to my attention recently, that few people currently realize that this country was not created, nor was it ever intended to be, a Demoncracy. This nation is, was, and (hopefully) always will be a Republic. There may be a few of you out there who are saying, "Naw, this country's a democracy, and that's the way it's supposed to be." Well, guess what. You're wrong. This country (the United States of America) is a Republic.
It may be tough for some of the younger readers to look at this, but, does anyone remember the Pledge of Allegiance?
"I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the REPUBLIC [emphasis added] for which it stands, One Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
Imagine that...there's the word. "Republic." Surprise, surprise. It does not say "and to the democracy for which it stands" now does it? I didn't think so. Democracy is simply majority rule. It doesn't work that way. Republic means that the people have rights, that those rights are protected, and that Freedom is appreciated.
I will probably update this article later, but I can't think of anything else right now...if you think of something else that fits into this article, another existing article, or have an article of your own, submit it, and I assure you that you will receive credit for it (by screen name unless otherwise requested).
