Since Christmas falls on Tuesday this year, the night of our show, I may take 25th Dec. off; so this and next weeks' shows may be our only strong Christmas connections this year. So far we have had no requests for other seasonal themes, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, Kwanzaa, Bahai or any other. Being a public station we do try to honor the tastes of all our listeners when these preferences are brought to our attention. Personally I am a Christian and as a volunteer I program to mostly entertain myself unless a persistent listener, such as the man who loves the Carter Family song, Western Hobo, calls in a request almost every week as John Wentworth does. Every song followed by (+) had a word, phrase or idea that had some definite connection to the celebration of Christmas or to the actual birth of Jesus Christ. Some of the other songs were more losely connected to the life of Christ. It is a rare priviledge to be able to program for people I've never met. Tonight's show is dedicated to many people including a fellow volunteer folk show host in another state who got disgusted and quit this past week. May he regain his optimism. As Pete Seeger once told me: in unstable times like these people need us musicians and our music more than they or even we realize! Special thanks to WUWG station manager, Kevin Sanders, for his support this past week in keeping Appalachian Trail Vaguely Folk Music Show on the air. Thanks, Kevin!!!
