Pete Seeger; Cielito Lindo; Classic Folk Music; Smithsonian-Folkways 2004 [Symphonic Violist Mary Brown was our music teacher at Edgewood Elementary, Homewood, Alabama in the 1950's. She taught this and many other folk songs to us as well as taking us to Birmingham Symphony Orchestra concerts at the now long destroyed, acoustically fine Temple Theater in downtown Birmingham. Thank you Mrs. Brown for a job well done! Oh, yes, she also loaned me an autoharp when I first wanted to learn to play it, many years after I had graduated from Edgewood. We can all be grateful for such loyal Americans who come to our nation's defense by conscientiously teaching that horde of barbarians known as elementary students. Such teachers are certainly national treasures.]

I would like to give special thanks to Mr. Tommy Brown of State University of West Georgia who for the past two days has dilligently worked to keep water from flooding into our high amperage radio station each time it rains. The guy with the 'know how' gets the job done, shovel in hand. THANKS!!! Without such help I wouldn't be surprised if one of us didn't get electrocuted while standing in water trying to produce a radio show.

Bruce Piephoff conversing and singing LIVE at WUWG tonight; pronounce his name as in Edith Piaf (no relation?). Bruce drove in from his home in Greensboro, NC this rainy day. Thanks to Sharon for letting us stay at her woodsy retreat tonight. In the morning Bruce will be off to a gig at Birmingham's Moonlight Cafe, run by Southside Birmingham photographer, Keith Haralson. Then he will join one of his harmony singers, Claire Holley, for a performance in her home town of Jackson, Mississippi (the town to which my parents eloped in October 1942) for a performance before heading home. Like Earl Scruggs and others, Bruce is fortunate enough to have a wife who helps coordinate his promotions and booking in addition to her other jobs. http://www.brucepiephoff.com

Hey, YOU! Thanks for listening!!!

This show verged on being a disaster due to equipment failure and my not having noticed soon enough that a selector button was depressed that totally changed the information being fed to output. All I had to do was push one button and I would have had normal access to the ENCO system and to CD player #2. CD #1 had malfunctioned so as I saw it four things were wrong at once. As a result my normal note-taking of the songs played was interrupted. I have a reference copy of the show somewhere which I will eventually find but I've had to move back to Newell and everything is in boxes and plastic sacks. Give me some time to sort it all out. On top of that the rear derailleur on my commuter bicycle broke. Three days were spend rebuilding another bike and finally getting the preferred Specialized Crosroads Cruz bike back on the road. The nearly-disasterous show turned out well anyway, thanks in part to the quick help of Frank Metcalfe, a Buffy Sainte Marie cassette and a one hour CD about the music of the Carter Family.
Pete Seeger; Mexican Blues
Bill Metcalfe; October Night; live guest in our studio tonight
Bill Metcalfe; Radical Rain; live guest in our studio tonight
Bill Metcalfe; Crystal Dreams, being a medley of two original songs: Crystal Point and Celtic Dreams; live guest in our studio tonight
Villa Rican, Georgia native Bill Metcalfe is a 14 year old keyboard player whose teacher has helped this self taught musician progress wonderfully. I'm glad to feature talented folks like Bill on this show. Bill can often be heard on at the Open Mic on Saturday nights at J.E. Cowart's Gallery Coffeehouse near the Police Station and Railroad Tracks in downtown Villa Rica.
Buffy Sainte-Marie; Disinformation
Buffy Sainte-Marie; Getting Started
In His Steps; Classify Me
In His Steps; One More Time
In His Steps; Just Like The Eagle
Steve Sedberry; performing several songs accompanied by acoustic guitar, Live at WUWG (but I've forgotten what I played.)
One hour of music and interviews regarding the making of the new tribute CD: The Unbroken Circle - The Musical Heritage Of The Carter Family.
For information on the recording
