The Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) president, Datuk Nadzmi Mohamed Salleh, has challenged the coaches to make world champions out of the national players.
He said yesterday that all the coaches should work together and come out with the best system to groom players.
“As individuals, they may not have the right answer. But if they cooperate, they may find the extra 5% to make the team the best among the best,” said Nadzmi.
Nadzmi also said that it was good that the BAM had foreign coaches to handle the national shuttlers.
He added, “I always believe that they, being outsiders, can make a better assessment on the strength of our players and give ideas on ways to improve.”
Nadzmi also hinted that he was in favour of forming a Project team and the introduction of the state and club system to develop the sport in order to produce more world-class shuttlers.

9b KLANG LASS TO GO INTO SPACE
In about 3 weeks, a Malaysian woman will be in space – studying the effects of a “weightless environment” with several groups of American students.
Klang-born Reny Rachel Vargis, 23, is believed to be the first Malaysian to take part in the annual programme organized by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
According to her sister, Denu, thirty-four teams have been selected in flights which would be launched from the Johnson Space Centre’s Ellington Field in Houston, Texas.
Denu said Reny’s flight out of earth’s atmosphere would be on February 23. Reny would be representing the Texas A & M University Aerospace Engineering Department. She would be part of a six-member team which includes four other undergraduate students and one supervisor.
Denu added her sister had always had big ambitions and had wanted to join NASA ever since she visited the organization last year.
Her father, V.Vargis, 60, is ecstatic over his daughter’s achievement.
“We are extremely proud of our little girl,” he said.

9c SITES IDENTIFIED FOR UNIVERSITY IN BENTONG
The Pahang State Government has identified three sites in Bentong district for the establishment of a university.
Withoutnamingthem, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said each site was between 200 ha and 400 ha.
“We chose Bentong as it is not far from Kuala Lumpur and therefore it is easy for lecturers and staff to travel,” he said after chairing the State Executive Council meeting today.
Adnan said he had prepared all the documents on the university and would hand them over to the Federal Government once the Education Minister came back from his working visit overseas.
Adnan said a university in Bentong would spur economic activities in the area.
On another matter, Adnan said landowners who were not satisfied with the compensation for their land which would be used for the construction of the East Coast Highway could appeal to the court.

GREAT OPPORTUNITIES AT IT FAIR
An IT fair will be held from Friday to Sunday, from 11 am to 9 pm, and is expected to host 50 booths.
As a bonus, customers purchasing Canon Bubble Jet printers and scanners can redeem free gifts exclusively from Canon.
However, the gifts are limited while stocks last, so customers are urged to make early purchases to avoid missing out.
“We face this problem every year due to limited gift items. It is difficult to predict the sudden rush of demand for our products,” said Canon sales manager, Ben Ooi.
