Reprint Series

Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD

The powerhouse creative teams that worked on Nick Fury's earliest adventures have ensured a good number of the classic SHIELD tales have remained periodically in print in one form or another since the demise of the original title series. In fact, one of the earliest reprints for Nick Fury's SHIELD adventures happened in his own titles series. Nick Fury and His Agents of SHIELD

The 1970's saw a reprint series, Nick Fury and his Agents of SHIELD in 1973 run for five issues. This series again mined the Strange Tales spate of SHIELD tales. Notably this series featured the first of Steranko's many returns to the character for cover duties.

Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD Special

In 1983, Marvel published a special two issue series reprinting for the first time stories from Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD (1). The first issue featured a new wraparound cover by Steranko. Known alternately as the Baxter editions or the Special editions, both issues featured re coloring which notoriously went unapproved by Steranko.
Steranko's work on Captain America was also reprinted in a similar two-issue series the following year.

#1:Reprints- Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #1-2/ Strange Tales #168 (first 6 pages)
#2: Reprints- Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #5/Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #3/ Strange Tales #168 (final 5 pages)

Marvel Essentials
Reprinting in b&w and on low quality paper, the ongoing Marvel Essentials line is a good way of obtaining years worth of mostly Silver Age Marvel adventures at a relatively cheap price. Many of Nick Fury's early adventures can be found in these volumes, although as of yet, Nick Fury does not have one of his own.

Foreign Publications

Marvel UK
Nick Fury has a rich history in the United Kingdom through b&w reprints of both his SHIELD and Howling Commando tales in various magazine style publications.

Nick Fury's Strange Tales adventures ran through Spiderman And The Titans #35-39, 41-50 (with only Strange Tales #154 published in an incomplete form) and continued in color through Captain Britain 1-20. Strange Tales #168 later appeared (due to its self-contained format) in The Original X-Men 13 and 14.

Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D #1, 3, 5 appeared out of sequence in the black and white in Captain Britain #28-31, 24-27, 35-37. Captain Britain also featured Nick Fury as a guest star in its own main strip.

Mexican Comics
Like many comic book heroes (including DC's Blackhawks), The Howlers were published in Spanish, both in reprints of their American adventures and in original stories.

"It happens that in the early 70's La Preens, the publisher of Mexican versions of the Marvel comics, started to publish adventures written and drawn by their Mexican staff. This is the case of The Blackhawks, Amazing Spider-man & Sgt Fury, among others. In the case of Sgt Fury starting with issue 105 which is a reprint, the original versions started to alternate with reprints and with the editions made in Mexico.

Not counting the 18 issues of Captain Savage, if issue # 1 (Mexican) = #1 USA and issue #187 (Mexican) = issue #110 you can figure out how many were produced in Mexico. In fact, believe it or not, more than 400 issues and at least  ten Yearbooks were published in Mexico."
