Camping at Bumping Lake
Bumping Lake, WA June 30 - July 1

Will and Ken enjoy a night at the campsite. Note improvised mosquito protection (which was quite effective). Experienced Boy Scout was not the least intimidated when a small volcano erupted in the center of the campsite
Ken and Will climbed 3600ft in 4.5mi to Nelson Ridge. A friendly backpacker took our picture. There was a strong wind at the top and it was a little chilly. Note the alpine conditions at this altitude. The air was thin and our fingers swelled up.
A view of Bumping Lake (where we were camped) from 6800ft. We were much too tired to climb another 800ft to the top of Mt. Aix. A view of an unnamed ridge near Mt. Aix. from the top of Nelson Ridge. Mt. Aix (not visible) is to the left.
An unnamed ridge near Mt. Aix. Note the changing perspective as we descend Nelson Ridge.
Will notes the passage of a large carnivorous animal Snow meltwater feeds many picturesque streams rushing down the steep slope

A magnificent 360' view from the top of Nelson Ridge (elev. 6800ft)

Mt. Rainier (covered by clouds) and Bumping Lake are to the left of the ridge in the middle. Mt. Aix is behind the height on the right. Note Will (visible at both ends of panorama) similarly enjoying the breathtaking scenery
