Well at last it’s happened, a Brisbane brothel is offering a Seniors Card discount, but only on Sundays. What about the song Never on Sundays.....do you remember the movie?
I suggested this discount many years ago to one well-known Seniors Card Manager, and somehow I never got an answer.
We should run a competition on what to name a brothel for seniors.
What about the name "The Viper Room"? Also what a wonderful way to fundraise for "Seniors Week".
It would be more fun than Raffles, Housie, Bingo and Bowls etc.
All their staff has CPR training, that could be enjoyable too! I don’t know how much their public risk insurance would be though. To be serious, I am really glad someone has realised there are older people still sexually active. It’s not the rash "in a hurry" passion of youth, love takes on many facets.
The brothel offers the discount on Sundays thinking that is when retirees go out to relax.
But as we all know, it’s easier to keep busy during the week when there are things happening. The weekends can be long and lonely; families are busy and older people often find themselves left alone. It’s then that men and women alike are looking for company.
All of us, young and old, men and women, need companionship, just a caring arm around your shoulder. Someone to hold hands with, hold you close, or just to remember someone you love.
You can be in the middle of a crowd and still feel lonely. We are all different and have different needs, so we should not sit in judgement of anyone. I think anyone who has read the papers lately will realise just what a bad way our health system is in.God help us if we lose Medicare; it’s for everyone. If we lose it those who don’t have any money can only go to an overburdened public hospital and wait to die.
A patient in Brisbane with cancer could not have any more radium treatment.
She was told she needed a blood transfusion, but would have to wait for five weeks. When her daughter complained that her mother was in pain, she was sent home with St Luke’s Service calling to give her palliative care. One member in Barcaldine told me of a local couple. The lady in her 80s, had a fall off her horse and was taken to Barcaldine Hospital, which is a Multi-Purpose Health Care Service. She needed an Xray, but their equipment was not suitable as it might interfere with the "reproductive organs".
She had to be taken to Longreach, but could not have the local ambulance as it was for emergencies only, and hers was "just" for an X-ray. Her much older husband had to drive her to Longreach and back. This is bureaucracy gone mad.
What sort of Area Health Managers do we have?
This astounding article is lengthy but to indicate the frustrations endured by many seniors, more can be supplied by contacting The Comet, (APSL) P O Box 5141, West End, Brisbane Qld 4101.
