Operation Enduring Freedom, Mar. 31, 2002An F/A-18C Hornet from Strike Fighter Squadron One Three Six (VFA-136) flies combat missions over international waters and in the skies over Afghanistan. The F/A-18 Hornet, an all-weather aircraft, is used as an attack aircraft as well as a fighter. In its fighter mode, the F/A-18 is used primarily as a fighter escort and for fleet air defense; in its attack mode, it is used for force projection, interdiction and close and deep air support. VFA-136 is part of Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7), deployed aboard USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) and is conducting combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. U.S. Navy photo by Capt.
