At sea with USS George Washington, Jun. 27, 2002—The nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) transits the Atlantic Ocean as she begins a regularly scheduled six month deployment in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, and Southern Watch. Carriers, such as George Washington and her sister ships, allow the United States to bring air power where it's needed, when it's needed and for as long as it's needed without requiring any basing permission from another country.
