RENTADICK (1972)

In 1972 Richard played the part of a detective called Hobbs at inept Agency in a comedy film called Rentadick.
Major Upton who runs Rentadick Inc. is contacted by a Mr. Armitage who has several jobs for him to carry out. First he suspects his wife of having an affair, and would like her watched so that he can find out what is truly going on and catch her lover. The other tasks concern his company Armitage Chemicals which has produced a nerve gas which must be protected from enemy spies, and his house must be made secure so that the papers relating to it are kept prying eyes. While Major Upton takes on these jobs, a Japanese spy known as Madam Greenfly is back at the Rentadick Inc. Offices hiring them to carry out a few jobs for her - to steal the same nerve gas and the papers.
Richard's character sets off on his first ever assignment to watch Mr. Armitage's wife but while watching her for days from the top of a tree in her garden he slowly begins to fall for her. Lost in a fantasy about her he falls from the tree and she takes him into the house so that he can recover from the fall. Soon Mr. Armitage returns and is of course under the impression that he is the young man his wife is having an affair with.
The overly complicated plot - written by Monty Python writing duo Graham Chapman and John Cleese - gets a little too silly and despite the the occasional laughs proveided by an amazing cast of comedy greats, the film never quite manages to live up to expectations.
