Personality Summary: Mamoru, like his love Usagi, evolves throughout the series. He begins as Usagi's tormentor, running into her on the street when she's late to class that fateful first day and, from then on, teasing her about her hair-style (the famed nickname Odango Atama/Meatball Head emerges), her tardiness, her grades, her laziness, her clutziness, her whining...just about anything he can think of. But, maybe of us UsaMamo fans believe this was just him hiding his true feelings for the little sprit of a girl. He is a troubled young man, having lost his parents in a horrible car accident when he was just a little boy and living alone ever since. He is dedicated, doing his best in school so that he can become a doctor. He is cold, only bantering with Usagi because she sparks something in him and befriending Motoki/Andrew because the blonde's warmth and acceptance practically forced him into a friendship. After he meets Usagi, he lightens up a bit, but is still troubled by dark dreams of a princess in trouble. When his secret past as Prince Endymion is finally revealed and he is accepted into the senshi group, he still remains a rather aloof character, only showing true emotion with Usagi (or later Chibi Usa who he immediately connects with and protects). His name means protector and that's what he is - almost bodyguard-esque - staying in the background and letting his charge, Usagi, take the spotlight. As the seasons progress, he interacts more with the other senshi and becomes a bit more well-rounded. By the end, he's a sensitive and caring man, having been lit up from the inside by his princess. (I must note here that in the manga, Mamoru is a much more 3-dimensional character and is both explained more thoroughly and is much more actively involved in the story arcs. I much prefer the manga Mamoru to the anime one.)
Love Life: Mamoru is bound irrevocably to the one and only Usagi Tsukino. They are soulmates. Before Mamoru was aware that he was Tuxedo Kamen, he would black out and transform to protect her (when she was Sailor Moon) because he could sense her fear and pain. It must be said that he has a slight deviance from Usagi by momentarily dating Rei in the first season. Die-hard UsaMamo fans, however, see this more as he spent some time with Rei because they had similar interests (at the time, they were both in the same karate class) and while Rei may have had a huge crush on him, he never held more than friendly feelings for her. In Season 2, the alien Natsumi/Ann falls for him and the same situation occurs - she hangs all over him as often as possible trying to get him to notice her, while he just goes through the motions of hanging out with a friend. Mamoru is very sought after by the female enemies of the show and is turned evil twice in the anime (in the manga it feels like he turns evil every other chapter - it happens a lot) and because a possessed-love-slave to Queen Beryl and Queen Nepherenia. Other than that...he's all Usagi's (or Usako's as he likes to call her - my little rabbit, for you English speakers). They marry in the future and have Chibi Usa as a daughter. Naoko Takeuchi said she wanted a night and shining armor for the show...and she got one!
