Because Gerald Dain was nice enough to give us some information on goings-on in Neridia, I am going to discuss some of my thoughts on the matter here. Please feel free to chim in if you have anything to add.
1) I will not comment upon the latter two messages, as King Daniel Versante has deemed them augery and therefore off-limits as far as I am concerned.
2) The first message was left by a group calling themselves The Voices of Those Who Remain. I asked myself, who could that possibly be, and I had an idea. When the Dread Ones were originally fought, Neridia recruited a group of wizards called The Great Wizards to their side. I believe there were five of these wizards, and they all insisted on great secrecy in their dealings, so as not to attract the attention of their own enemies. Anyway, the Great Wizards fought the Dread Ones, and three of the five wizards were killed. I believe the two wizards who remained were called Enigma and Golem. It is possible that these two are The Voices of Those Who Remain, and it would stand to reason that they would warn us about the Dread Ones.
3) I have not been to Neridia many times myself, but from what I understand, the Dread Ones hadn't been seen in Neridia for a long time before they showed up to assassinate the King at the last gathering. I can't help but wonder why they suddenly became interested in Neridia again, and I also wonder if they are allied with the Varykites.
4) "Remember all that it take a force of Weal to stand against a force of Dread." That was a direct quote from the message. Now, that could mean that it takes a force of will to stand against a force of dread, or they could mean something specific when they say "Weal," especially since they capitalize it. Perhaps there is some force out there called Weal that opposes the Dread ones. That's just speculation, of course, but if it does exist, finding it would probably greatly aid our cause.
5) "Those who remain will act in this, they will aid you to train, they will teach in their manner." Another direct quote. Whoever these people are, I think they will be showing up at the next gather in Neridia, and I think it will be in our best interests to find them and learn all we can from them.
6) Finally, I think that the best way to combat the Dread Ones this time may me to beat them the same way they were beaten the last time. It would be difficult, but if we could gather a council of wizards, it is possible they might be able to stand against the Dread Ones. Of course, I have no idea how to gather together a group of wizards as powerful as the Great Wizards were, but I don't know that we have other choice.
At any rate, I hope these ponderings will at least get a discussion on the subject started. Maybe, by putting our heards together, we can come up with a way to defeat these things. I know many in House Bashere originally hail from the land of Neridia, and so I would imagine they would like to see it preserved. I believe that we can only do that by careful study and consistent cooperation. May your roads all be smooth, my friends.
