- About the Anime, Inuyasha -

Inuyasha is situated in Sengoku Jidai, the 1500's warring period of Japan, and is about a certain half-demon named Inuyasha - the namesake of the anime. Inuyasha wishes to get rid of his human origins and needs the Shikon Tama to do so. This Shikon Tama (meaning Jewel of the four Spirits) has enormous power and a certain priestess, by the name of Kikyo, was its guardian. By chance, Inuyasha and Kikyo met. Inuyasha was curious about Kikyo, as the priestess did not want to kill him, unlike many others had. This curiousity led to a deeper relationship, and I suppose you could even call it love. Kikyo told Inuyasha of the good sides to humans, and persuaded him to turn fully human with the power of the Shikon.

But on the day that InuYasha would turn human, a 'Kikyo' betrayed InuYasha and shot him full of her purifying arrows. The two didn't know that a half-demon named Naraku had spread a trap. Naraku had the ability to change forms and he had taken the form of Kikyo. InuYasha thought that Kikyo had betrayed him when in fact, it was truly Naraku. Kikyo also thought that InuYasha had betrayed her as when she was waiting, she was attacked by 'InuYasha' (who was really Naraku in disguise) and recieved a fatal wound. So the two thought the other had betrayed them. The real InuYasha was peeved so he went to steal the Shikon, but when he did, the real Kikyo used her arrow to seal InuYasha away.

Hence, Inuyasha and Kikyo ended up hating each other; Kikyo died because of the wound and Inuyasha was sealed to a tree in eternal sleep, with Kikyo's arrow in his chest. - a rather sad ending. The Shikon No Tama was burned with Kikyo's corpse.

Naraku was the cause of Kikyo and Inuyasha's suffering (and basically everything else that goes bad in the series) It was all a misunderstanding...

BUT 50 years later, a young freshman girl in highschool, Year 9, named Kagome, by chance came upon a well in her home grounds which really was a temple shrine. This well acted as a time machine, and pulled Kagome into the past. There, she found Inuyasha - still sleeping fitfully on the tree. Kagome then had a tad spot of trouble with a demon, and called on Inuyasha for help. She pulled out the binding arrow and Inuyasha was free once again. We eventually find out that Kagome is supposedly a reincarnation of Kikyo, and Inuyasha does fall for Kagome in the end.

However, the story doesn't end here. Kagome had the Shikon Tama embedded within her body, and its starts all over again. The Shikon is one jewel that virtually every evil demon in the vincinity is after - for the power it has. Inuyasha is really no exception but due to some events, Inuyasha becomes somewhat the protector of Kagome. (Inuyasha wears a magical rosary that lets Kagome keep him under control with the power of the word, "sit!" This dreaded word brings Inuyasha crashing to the ground rather painfully.)

Kagome "accidentally" broke Shikon Tama into hundreds of shards with her arrows and of course, their quest is to collect those shards before other evil demons get their grubby claws on them. From here, Kagome and Inuyasha meet up with Shippo (the little demon fox out for revenge), Miroku (the lecherous monk who is also out for revenge), Sango (the youkai exterminator who is yet again, is out for revenge) and Kiara (the companion of Sango.)

Special Note: Everyone wants revenge against Naraku, the evil monkey who causes all the problems.
