Bread Warmers
sent to the list by Mary in Florida
I have been making breadwarmers for ever so long that I got from
"who knows where". This fits nicely in an 8 - 10" wicker basket. It is
shaped but has over all dimensions of 18 x 18" (a perfect use for a quilter's fat
quarter). I use two layers, one of printed cotton and one of pre-quilted muslin
(double or single-faced - either works fine). You can use piping around the outer edge, or
not. Now for the shaping (and this will be harder to describe): On paper, draw a
large heart with the widest part at 18" and length also 18". Now cut it in half
lengthwise. You will only use the top half of the heart shape. Then reshape the cleft at
the top middle of the heart, deepening it to 2.5" and instead of a sharp inside
point, round it off slightly. This part so far gives you 1/2 the pattern. You need to
place the bottom straight edge on the fold of the fabric (or on paper, make a full
pattern). When placed in the basket, you have a liner with four"ears" that flap
over the bread/rolls. I use a 1/2" seam allowance when sewing this.Hope this is
slightly clearer than mud. (gg)Mary in FL
