Crib Sheets
Don't know who posted this originally, Saralyn sent it to me

Grace, this is really easy. I used to make crib sheets all the time when mine were little and I found that KNIT fabrics make the best crib sheets.

For the size you need: The crib mattress I have here is 27 x 50 x 6" deep. So I would need a piece 27" plus 12" (39") by 50" plus 12" (62") plus 4-6 inches extra for fudge factor or additional tuck-in.

1. Take a piece of cotton knit.

2. Lay it on the mattress just like it would be if it were already a sheet, but upside down.

3. Stretch it a little so it fits without wrinkles, smoothing it out.

4. Put a safety pin in each corner of the TOP of the mattress.

5. Working on one corner at a time, smooth the fabric straight down to the bottom of the mattresson both sides of the corner See the dart shaped piece left on the end? That's a 45 degree angle, just make a dart out of it and put a pin at the bottom of the mattress. If you have extra length left that's good.

6. Sew all four of the darts, trimming off the extra fabric. Now it looks pretty much like a fitted sheet, right? If you have a couple extra inches on the bottom that's okay, you can stitch stretched elastic all around the bottom and this part will take up and be under the mattress, it's harder for it to come loose that way. If you stitch the elastic on with a serger, that's all the hemming you need.

Cute cotton knit prints make the best sheets, the print hides all kinds of nasty stains (if it matters!) and are very comfortable on sensitive skin.
