What are these fabrics I see listed? Dobbie, Jersey, Interlock

Dobbie is usually seen in poly cotton blend 65/35 broadcloth weight. itisa special weave (not quite as complex as a jacquard but more than a twill)-usually something geometric (dot's, diamond's & sometimes wavy stripes woven). these designs often employ heavier 'stuffer' yarns in the filling to float on the back of the fabric & add texture to the weave. This fabric is often used for shirts, it used to be very popular for health care uniforms.

Interlock is a double sided knit - most knits are formed from a weft form at which is rather fragile (think how easy a pair of panty hose runs!) With interlock or double knits a special stitch using 2 sets of needles & 2setsof yarn draw loops in both directions creating a much firmer fabric. You can use either side as the right side - sometimes they are even created with 2 colors - this is esp cool if you like to make reversable clothing. This fabric type is common for t-shirts... It is also available in better quality fabrics but most common in t-shirts!

Jersey - tends to be a more generic & often European term for a garment from a knit fabric or simply a knit fabric. I think of it as a single knit but that is my bias!

As to Barbar - oops that's an elephant! :)Berber seems to be a rather new word as it isn't in my college editionWebster's or my older Vogue sewing book!   I do know that the berber that we wear in clothing is produced with special computerised knitting machines. There are small poly &/ acrylic fibers that are shot in or above the needles during knitting & as they are caught & locked they produce that really cool look that we know as berber! I've recently seen a very neat design in one - looks like tree's with hills in the back ground. It's multi colored & $$$$$!
