Gingham
Lars

Thank you for the most clearly explained idea for cutting out that plaid/checked fabric that I've seen so far! :) Now I know why I didn'tcut it out yet -- this will make it soooo much easier, because the fabric is pretty much the way you explain it here, an uneven pattern. Mikki

This sounds like the Gingham Check is not a "regulated" or even check/plaid. This happens if the check is not spaced correctly or evenly. Say, one pink/white block, one pink block, one white block, one pink block, one pink/white block, one white block--get it?  Not the same regularly reoccuring pattern. In that case dear, you need to open the material flat, pick out one sequence, and cut the pieces of the pattern each INDIVIDUALLY by making sure you pick out the same starting and ending sequence for each front/back pattern piece. It usually helps to mark on the pattern with pencils (colored) to show where the pattern was laid out on material. I do this all the time with plaids to make sure that the lines match. You will usually need more material to do this with than if you could just fold it over and cut out two pieces one on top of the other.
