1. Measure shirt from top to desired length of romper(see chart) Cut off excess
2. Fold shirt in half, measure from top of neck back to desired crotch length(see chart) mark
3. On lower edge mark 6" from side seam in. Draw a line. (this is where the ribbing is going to go for the leg) From crotch mark to 6" mark, draw a line gradually down to bottom. This is making to legs. Cut off excess.
4. Sleeves - Measure center fold at neck back to desired sleeve length.(see chart) Mark lower edge of sleeve making a line perpendicular to upper fold.
5. Draw a new cutting line from mark at lower edge to sleeve. Curve in towards the chest
6. Draw a new side seam, going round at upper arm and then gradually curving out to meet original sleeve seam. Cut off excess
7. Turn inside out and sew
8. Add ribbing on sleeves and legs.

I think that is everything - let me know if you need any more information.

>Ok I must be missing something... wasn't there mention of snap tape for the crotch? will the neckline still be ok on an infant? I have an 11 mo   I want to try this for.

Thanks-Karen

The neck should be OK as long as the shirt you are using is in good shape (i.e. the neck ribbing is not too baggy) To see if it would work - slip the shirt over your 11 month old head to see how it looks. If you think it is too baggy you can always add a new layer of ribbing alittle bit bigger than the first to bring the neck line in.

Snaps or zippers could be added on the leg seams.

For zipper

1. Fold the ribbing in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and pin to bottom of leg seam, matching raw edges. Stitch in place matching, stretching ribknit slightly as you sew.
2. Open zipper and pin one side to zipper tape to one side of romper, lining tape up with raw edge of fabric. Stitch, folding back the tape at zipper top.
3. close zipper and pin the other side to romper matching raw edge with zipper tape. Fold back tape.
4. If zipper is too long, stitch over zipper teeth 1/2" for leg opening and cut off excess
5. Ribbing for over side of leg. Stitch the remaining leg ribbing. Fold in half, wrong sides together and pin on leg opening. Place ribbing on leg, dividing the rib evenly over leg opening. Stitch in place.

Snaps can be done the following way:

1. Follow the patterns instructions, finishing all seams except the leg and crotch seams.
2. Finish the leg seam using a narrow hem or method of your choice.
3. Measure the crotch length. Cut a new strip of fabric 1.5" longer than the crotch length. The extra length is for seam allowances. As this strip will be folded over (see Step 5) the width of the strip should be approximately 2.5 times wider than the band width you have chosen. For example, a 1" finished band requires a 2.5" wide strip.
4. Apply interfacing to wrong side of the fabric strip.
5. Fold the strip over, right sides together, and sew the end seams together.
6. Turn the strip to the right side and press.
7. Place the strip and garment right sides and raw ends together.
8. Apply snaps onto strip.

Repeat the above steps on the opposite seam, matching up snaps

The snap band can go through the ribbing or up to the ribbing

Hope this helps
