Pressing Brick

Rowena__.

greetings all!  I've been swamped with requests for instructions on how tomake more pressing accessories, so I'm posting to the list. The pressing brick is a great tool for getting good pressure on things like wool where you might want a good crease or need help getting a straight seam to lie flat.  You don't have to bear down on your board or iron to get the pressing done.  You need:

1--a clean, solid brick with sharp edges

2--a scrap of wool--a piece with a little nap is good.  Wrap the wool scrap around the fabric, wrapping it like you would a present. Sew it securely in place with hand stitches. WARNING: your needle will most likely be useless after this--the brick dulls it quick!--so plan to throw it away. Other uses for the brick: the long edge is good for pressing seams flat without leaving marks on the right side. You can lay the brick on your seam and walk  away while the steam works it's way into the seam. And on hot summer days you can prop the door open to get a cool breeze.
