Scissors Storage
I have seen a clear vinyl holders for shoes used for sewing supplies. Customize some of the pockets into "scissor pockets" by dividing/sewing the original pockets in half or in thirds. Then use the other pockets for other supplies. This would really be great for the decorative edge scissors. The organizer would probably be easy to make yourself. Sturdy canvas, vinyl and maybe dowels for support on the top and bottom...hmmmm....
My hubby uses peg board in the garage for his tools...you could put it up near your sewing station, paint it a pretty color and stencil in your scissors positions for easy reference. Dont forget to leave an area free on the pegboard for a cork bulletin board to pin up sewing patterns/instructions. Drill holes into the end(s) of your work/cutting tabletop. (Works great formake shift door cutting tables!) Make sure to drill holes big enough to fit scissor blades, but not the grips. Use a good sealer in the holes for durability. The scissors slide right in and are readily available. May not bea good idea if you have small children.
Create scissor drawers using knife drawer concepts. Lock them if you have small children. Try making a "scissor block" from leftover scrap 2 x 4's glued together Precut notches in both 2 x 4's to make slots when you glue the boards together. OR nail and glue dowels or pieces of wood in strategic places to make slots for scissors on one board and let dry. Then glue/nail to the other2 x 4 to make a sandwich. Glue the scissor block bottom to another 2 x 4 for its base. Get as fancy as you want. Use molding to finish the base, sand then stain or paint - stencil or sponge paint...whatever!
Use a heavy wooden box and nail and glue a sheet of wooden lattice to top. Line box with batting and felt to protect the points of the scissors.Decorate as you desire.
Glue pvc pipe scraps in a bundle and sit in a tray or shallow dish. Cut pipes at an angle at the top and straight across on the bottom. Cut at different heights to accomodate the different scissors. This would probably work withcard board tubes like toilet tissue. You could mount the slightly sandpapered pvc or cardboard tubes in"quickcrete" by using a plastic lined cardboard box or other shape dmold. Peel off the box when set, paint or spray with stone like treatment and line the bottom with felt to avoid scratching any surfaces. I would put a wad of batting to cushion scissor points from the cement.
I think that is enough ideas for me! AND too much coffee today! LOL! Good Luck!
