Summer slip fabric suggestions

>I would like to make a slip to wear under these longish summer skirts, but hate the material that most of the purchased slips I have are made of. It is very hot and clammy. Does anyone have a suggestion for an easy care breathable fabric with which to make a nice slip?

Maggi, my favorite fabric for slips is plisse. I'm very hot natured and found the plisse is cool and sews up beautifully.

Diane, you can get plisse at Walmart, Clothworld & Hancocks. It looks a bit like seersucker. But much softer and instead of having the vertical raised bumps on the fabric. It just has little raised bumps all over it.

Walmart usually carries it in white, pink, blue & mint green all the time. And this time of year they also carry it in prints. It washes up beautifully, doesn't wrinkle easily (although be careful pressing it you can press the little bumps right out of it). It isn't a stretchy fabric like tricot so you'd have to allow for that when you decide which pattern to use. I use a regular lingerie slip pattern, and just add a little down the side seams.

I can't remember the fabric content, I have some in the drawer (but it can't have a lot of synthetic or it wouldn't be cool).

I make slips, nightgowns and one year for around the house sleeveless tops I also used it (for me). For the grandkids I make p.j.'s and nightgowns. I've used it for years. Try one piece and see what you think.

I would like to suggest silk charmuse for your slip. It can be washed if you prewash your fabric and being a natural fiber it breathes so is less likely to be hot and clammy feeling under your new skirts. I love this fabric. Just my humble opinion.

Maggie, why not make a summer slip from batiste? I have one which I love, because it's lightweight and since it's cotton, it is also cool in the hot weather.
