Walker Pocket instructions

I tried to draw my version that I made for a friend, but my e-mail drawing skills are non-existant, so I''ll try writing instructions.....
You'll need: about 1 yard of 45" fabric, 2 9" pieces of sew-on velcro, 2 pieces of 9" X 15" cardboard. Cut a piece of fabric 16" X 44". Make a 1/4" hem to the wrong side on each16" end. Mark or press a fold line 10" in toward the center from each hemmed end. Set aside.
Pockets--Cut 2 pieces of fabric 7" X 16". Make a 1/4" hem along each16"side (this will be the top and bottom of each pocket). Pin or baste these pocket pieces on the right side of the first piece at the fold mark, but toward the center. (There should be about 2 to2-1/2"between them at the center.) Also pin or baste to the sides. Stitch across the pocket bottom-it's at the fold line ( I know-you have that 10" still hanging out there on both ends-don't worry, I'll get to that soon!).
Stitch a line perpendicular to the hem line, in the center, on one pocket to form 2 smaller pockets, and maybe leave the one on the other side wide enough to hold a magazine. Now, still on the right side, stitch the 9" velcro strips 3/4" in from the unfinished sides of that 10" section on both ends--both soft pieces on one end and both rough pieces on the other end.
Fold ,right sides together, the bottom sections over the pockets ection, and stitch 1/2" side seams. Turn back right side out. This forms a pocket on each end on the back (or wrong side) which can hold something to give some strength and stiffness to the walker-pocket ( I used file folders). It is also a sort of hidden pocket if needed.
The sides of the small 2" area between the pockets in the center need to be stitched down or fused so they won't be left unfinised.
Now hang the whole thing over the front bar of a walker and press the velcro together to hold it securely. There are endless possibilities for making the attatched pockets. They could be made with small pleats at the sides to make them a little deeper and easier for hands with arthritis to get into. They could also have a velcro tab to close at the top, or be made a size for specific things-to hold glasses or tissues, etc.I hope this makes sense---and is some help! Linda in GA
