REFERENCE: The connection between Richard Montacute and Robert Montague was supplied by Robert Latane Montague III of Alexandria, VA. He is Trustee of the Montague Memorial Assocation. It came from a Genealogical Chart hanging in the Urbanna, VA home of the late Governor of Virginia Andrew Jackson Montague. The research and chart was commissioned by his son Gen. Robert Latane Montague II.

INFORMATION: "The Thigpen Tribe" by Alice Whitley Smith; The ancient Malet
family was established in England at the Norman Conquest, and is said on
authority of the Court Poet, Guy Amiens, to have been "partim Normanus et
Anglus." (One of the arms shown in the Phippen records is very similar to one
of the Mallet arms given to Burke's Landed Gentry.)
