June 15, 2003

Atlanta, Ga. - Six Flags Over Georgia is the ideal place to celebrate Independence Day this year with a week full of patriotic music, displays, and events at the park. Salute 2 America, third begins June 28 and ends July 5.

To help kick off this weeklong celebration of our nation's 227th birthday, the Great American Scream Machine will celebrate its 30th birthday June 27-28 with a 30-hour coaster marathon. Guests are invited to take a lap with the marathon volunteers from the American Coaster Enthusiasts and earn their own "Red Badge of Courage". The park will also hold special showings of the Great American Scream Machine documentary which was filmed in 1973 when this enormous coaster was first introduced as the tallest and longest the world had ever seen.

During each day of Salute 2 America guests can find all sorts of special events, contests, and demonstrations going on at the Celebration Stage located in the USA section of the park. The park itself will be decked out on more red, white, and blue than ever and each evening will conclude with a fireworks display at dusk.

Of course, it would not be Independence Day be without the all-American sounds of Lee Greenwood. Six Flags Over Georgia is proud to present Lee Greenwood in concert July 5. The concert starts at 8:00 p.m. in the Six Flags Southern Star Amphitheater.

Six Flags Over Georgia is also preparing to make a special salute to our nation's armed forces with a week of deep discounts and free admission for active service members and their families.

From June 28 to July 5, active members and reservists of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard can receive almost half off one-day admission to the park. To redeem this discount, service members or spouse must show their military ID June 28 - July 5 at any Six Flags Over Georgia ticket booth to receive tickets for themselves and immediate family at a discounted rate of $22.95 plus tax.
