Description of Action
Weigand and Freckleton were flying wing to Lt Jim Stillinger on a MiGCAP 50 miles north of Quang Lang airfield where there was an A-5 Vigilante recon mission going in. They had just arrived on station when they were advised by Red Crown of MiGs south of them. The controller kept them informed of the MiGs position, bearing 230 at 15 miles, 240 at 10, 250 at 8, 270 at 6, 295 at 4 and finally 330 at 2 and they still couldn't see the MiG. Red Crown called them to look low and as they rolled into a left bank they saw a single green MiG-17 at a 1000ft just pulling his nose up into them.

Stillinger instructed Weigand to go high cover as he rolled into the MiG, whereupon Stillinger and the MiG then proceeded to scissors with Stillinger doing his best to get onto the MiGs tail. Eventually the MiG proved too nimble and Stillinger called Weigand to cover him as he put his nose down and proceeded to extend away with the MiG on his tail.

Weigand had come back down and had managed to get in a 6 o'clock position on the MiG without the MiG seeing him. With a good tone on his AIM-9D Weigand let one fly, taking the MiGs tail off and seeing it crash into the ground with no chute seen.

The two F-4s then proceeded to exit the area at high speed and low level with 4 MiG-21s on their tails trying to down them with Atolls.

Special Notes
Both F-4s radar's were inoperative during the flight and so, to be historically accurate, don't fly with any Sparrows. Both F-4s also had a centreline fuel tank.

You can get the VF-111 Sundowners skin from Column5s site. Edit the Mission TextureSet id for the correct set (minus 1) in your F-4B.ini. Mine is [TextureSet007] and so I'd set the Mission TextureSet=6. Do the same for the MiG to set it as a green MiG.
