Ayumu Nishizawa is a classmate from Hayate's school before he became a butler. She is someone who likes to eat food. Wherever she is, she is always seen eating something. She always had feelings for Hayate and is happy when he pays his old school a visit. She violently lashes out at anyone who badmouths her and Hayate, including a teacher who called Hayate a dropout because his parents had refunded all his school fees the day Hayate was sold. She confesses her feelings to Hayate, but Hayate rejects them after getting a vision of Nagi.

Undeterred, she tries to talk to Hayate when she sees him a week later, but she runs into Nagi and is shocked that in terms of metaphoric strength that Nagi is represented by a dragon while she is represented by a hamster. Nishizawa retreats, vowing next time to bring a stronger hamster. She later challenges Nagi to karaoke, only to lose. She is always seen most of the time eating something. She once work at Nagi's amusement park inside her mansion once just to try to meet Hayate again. After Hayate has been blown away by destroying a machine piloted by Gilbert, this combat butler attempt to avoid Ayumu's questioning about how he think of her by faking amnesia and somehow has to treat Ayumu as his master. That spark a series of incidents involving attempts to make him recover from the fake amnesia. Ayumu had to babysit Nagi for a day next and tell her how to become a normal person.

Ayumu and Nagi join a High School Girls Utimate Quiz to try to win a trophy looking like Hayate and a coupon to eat all you want in a restaurant. After going through four rounds including the last round battling teams of HInagiku and Miki as well as Aika and Chiharu, they emerge victorious in the end. All of them end up using the coupon to celebrate their victory.

Ayumu went on a vacation with Hinagiku and the Student Council Trio to develop close relationships with them especially Hinagiku. She might be the first to find out that Hinagiku likes Hayate.
