Since I'm in biotechnology, I decided to do something about the subject. I've stated some of my interest in the field of biotechnology. Maybe it's time for you guys to think about what you want too....
Actually now that I'm into this course, there's something horrifying to confess. I don't know what is biotechnology. I mean...what do we do exactly? Now that I've checked out encarta encyclopedia, I know what does it mean. This is for the benefit of those who is as blur as me:
Biotechnology is the manipulation of biological organisms to make products
that benefit human beings. Biotechnology contributes to such diverse areas
as food production, waste disposal, mining, and medicine.
Now that I know, no wonder people keep saying that this millenium is the biotech millenium. Ok, actually I hope that the scientist won't decipher the DNA code so soon because if they do, I would be out of job when I graduate.......hahaha.....not kidding.
My dad says often that there are microorganisms that are trapped in the ocean under the thick layer of Arctic ice. If global warming occurs, these organisms would be unleashed and thus create a worldwide epidemic. When I was young I've always wanted to be a lawyer who fights for justice and help the poor. Now that I can't, maybe I should invent vaccines and sell them cheap so that they can afford the medicine too.
