This might or might not speed up the loading of applications. It depends on the architecture of the application itself. I am not sure why the program is not located anywhere in the system tools. It is however located at the Task Scheduler. I'm not sure if this is available in Win95, but it is found in Win98/SE/ME.

Just create a shortcut in your favourite folder or desktop. The program is \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WALIGN.EXE . This program is suppose to optimize the running of applications in Windows98 so that the applications will load faster. After installing any application, I've always run this program, followed by the Win98 defrag. It seems that this program will not work if you did not install Microsoft Office 95/97. This patch solves the problem.

I have also received some feedback from my friends using the Norton Utilities Speed Disk 3.0. According to them, if you install the latest patch (v3.07 and above) which makes Norton Utilities compatible with WIN98, the Speed Disk is faster (by a little) and more effective than the WIN98 defrag. In fact, according to them, it might increase the overall access speed of your harddisk! They fully recommend Norton Speed Disk for defragging.

Take Note: If you're using Norton Speed Disk, run \WINDOWS\Cvtaplog.exe before you run Speed Disk. This program will run automatically if you use Win98 Defrag.
