High Elves Preview, Part 2
Greetings my fellow generals,
I, IronJem, Slayer of Lahmia, Smasher of Waagh, Bane of Druchii,
and Chopper of Trees bring you more news from the stinky-island-where-they-call-home
of the pointy ears. Yes! Its the home of the they-think-they-are-so-smart
and magic-flows-in-their-blood High Elves!!! Many of my miners
dug a long tunnel to their stinky island and unearthed the
great treachery that GW has bestowed upon us. It is a solemn
day for my mighty race as many miners died to bring you this
news...... I wish to share my knowledge of the weird thingy
they call magic to all of you so that we can let the lizards
rape them!!! Hahahaha!!!! Go Elmer Go!!!!! Now... let's settle
down and listen to the stuntie.
HE mages automatically know Drain Magic spell if they practice
High magic or True Magic. All HE mages get +1 to dispel. Not
cumulative for having more mages but bonus can be combined
with magic items.
Drain Magic. 5+/7+/9+. At 5+, all 6s rolled by enemy wizard
is discarded. 7+, all 5s & 6s are discarded and 9+ all
4s, 5s & 6s are discarded. Range 24" at a single
enemy wizard. Can cast into close combat. Can ignore some
Fortune is Fickle results. Spell lasts until start of caster's
next magic phase.
Walk between Worlds. 4+. Only caster and on foot. Caster
becomes ethereal. Can only be affected by magical weapons
and spells. Can move through obstacles and impassible or difficult
terrain like open terrain. May cast spells and fight as normal?
Lasts until start of caster's next magic phase.
Curse of Arrow Attraction. 6+. Enemy unit within 24".
Any missile fire directed at enemy unit may re-roll failed
to-hit. Template or breath weapon can re-roll to hit any models
which are partially covered. No effect on close combat.
Fortune is Fickle. 7+. Enemy wizard within 24". Any
double (even double 6) when casting a spell is a miscast.
Remains in play.
Fury of Khaine. 8+. Magic missile 24" 2D6 Str 4 hits.
Flames of Phoenix. 11+. Remains in play. Enemy unit within
24". Each model, including characters and unit champions
take a Str 3 hit. At start of caster's next magic phase, each
model takes a Str 4 hit and a Str 5 hit the following phase.
Vaul's Unmaking. 12+. Enemy unit within 24". May be
cast into close combat. Must reveal all magic items in unit.
Caster choose 1 of them to be nullified for rest of battle.
Spell does not remain in play but effect lasts for the remainder
of the battle. All runes on an item is affect, not just 1
rune. No effect if unit has no magic items.
Now, let the old bearded golfball speak!! My guess might
be off by a mile but my scatter dice can re-roll!! For those
of you who don't believe in magic, I implore you to reconsider.
Magic is too deadly to ignore and you run the risk that HE
would wipe you out with Magic! With the suitable honour, they
can select the spells tailored to the opponent. Therefore,
whatever spells they have we can be certain it would mess
us up. If you are a T3 army like DE, Empire, etc, can you
stand Flames of Phoenix? With no magic defense, you stand
almost no chance to stop this spell and by the 2nd or 3rd
turn, the whole unit would be dead! With the possibility of
a shooty army, the Curse of Arrow Attraction would wipe out
any unit in 1 turn. Imagine 2 RBTs and many archers having
re-rolls to hit. On the other hand, if you bring on your wizards,
you won't be able to get your spells off because Fortune is
Fickle and Drain magic would neutralize your spells totally.
HE mages don't even need dispel scrolls as their ability is
more cost-efficient. With the points freed, they can take
gross and cheap magic items to help them throw even more magic
at you and kill even more of your precious troops. You think
you got a mean magic item? Vaul's Unmaking is your nightmare!!!!!
What is the solution? We just have to take enough dispel scrolls
and runes of spellbreaking to stop his spells. Failure to
do so would only spell the doom of your prized special and
rare units.
Enough talk!! Let's march to war and show these pointy ears
what we are made of! May we roll more 6s and not misfire!!!
