Common Name | Glass Catfish
|
Species/genus | Kryptopterus bicirrhis
|
Keeping | This is not a beginner's fish. These derive their
name from the transparent body they sport. They are even more transparent than the Indian
Glass Tetra. They love to be in shoal and have to be kept in groups of at least six. They like
strong current in the water and just hover in the middle of it with head slightly upwards. It has
two barbels which it always moves about to feel the surroundings. Feeding these is difficult as
the food needs to be suspended in the water current. They need live food such as brine shrimps
suspended in the water. They can also take flakes and other food as long as they can be
suspended in the water current. They need open swimming space with plants in the background. Strong
current is prefered. Water quality has to be maintained. They have to be kept with non-aggressive
fish of similar water requirements.
|
Breeding | They are extremely difficult to breed and details
of captive aquarium breeding are not known.
